I wonder how many of these style tracks got buried in the vault over the last 10 years...

I'm as confused by the comparison to S/T which was a very clean bright rock sound and nothing dirty or groovy.

I'm not hearing any Ten or VS in Quick Espace.

I'm also not hearing Avocado or Riot Act here.

It feels more like a new heavy direction that the band has discovered, which just a few traces from their past.

I feel the only song in their catalog that feels similar to this, is My Father's Son *gasp*.

Except this is well executed, while MFS was just a nice try, but far from the potential they have in them... or maybe it was watered down by the awful LB production. :gomez:

MFS is a totally different tempo; it was a fast rock song, where this is a slow chuggy groover - like in Ten and Vs. but performed by contemporary PJ

they basically stopped being primarily that hard groove band at Vitalogy, with a few hints of it again on Yield ("Faithfull", "No Way")

I hear the My Father's Son comparison, mainly as both were written by Jeff and are driven by a vaguely similar bass groove.

My Father's Son is a better song, though.

This is actually kinda tough for me. MFS is my favorite from LB, clear standout. I gotta listen to em both right now to make this decision..................... Quick Escape wins, but MFS isn't too far behind. MFS and Pendulum are the only LB songs that even come close to any Gigaton songs.

Yes, it's a different tempo, but the core of the two songs feels very similar, like someone said, Jeff's bass seems to be driving both songs.... if you were to slow down MFS a bit or speed up QE, you'd get two very, very similar songs... more similar than QE could be to any other song in PJ's catalog, imo.

I still can't find a connection in QE with Ten or Vs Pearl Jam.

That’s a knee-slapper. I’m quite fond of MFS but let’s not kid ourselves.

Nor me.

It's still very much a modern Pearl Jam song to my ears.

you legit can't hear Dave A laying that down?

The riffage sounds exactly like something of a stone gossard demo from post MLB days

They all are, really -- I think about half of them are really strong, but all of them are far closer in spirit and in compositional quality to Backspacer and Lightning Bolt than to anything of "recently risen from the ashes of Mother Love Bone" vintage.

And I don't mean that as a negative, I think they did a good job on this album of shaping that approach, and zeroing in on the elements of it that work.
