I'm still in the club and I'm pretty fucking pissed my CD didn't show today. I'm in Maryland FFS. I won't lie I did download the FLACs today as a back up for tomorrow in case my CD is still a no-show.

This wait has been the worst of all the album waits imo. I feel like going to a mosh pit. Its taking all my strength to not listen to the latest single Quick Escape. I'm genuinely stressed about it at this point which makes no sense to me.

you have to break your resolve down deliberately and incrementally. Step 1, tell yourself it's ok because it's not a leak. simmer on that for a while. When that feels good, e 2: tell yourself you'll only listen to it once, and via your iphone speaker or shitty headphones so to not get the full experience. Then, give in to the inevitable impulse to actually experience it through good speakers/headphones, which is only natural, after all. Then, enjoy the song on repeat until midnight tomorrow night with blissful impunity because, fuck it.

Holy crap yes you are better man than me, that's willpower. As soon as I get the CD today I'm listening (or possibly waiting till tonight when there's fewer distractions). I downloaded the FLACs from a kind soul on here last night as a back up in case my CD doesn't show today

No, no...absolutely not...Waste of $$, IMO...Other opinions may vary, but, 24/96 is the personal sweet spot for my ears and my system.

Don't intend to drag this thread down a rabbit-hole, nor do I want things to devolve and break down into the type of fervent arguments that tend to spark up elsewhere on the web when this topic comes up, but, please indulge me and let me say a couple of very quick things.

- There are a prohibitive number of factors involved when it comes to high-res audio: Your system, how the album was recorded, the electronics chain used to record, etc...

- Bit-rate/Sample rate is not a "higher is better" game. The bitrate/sample rate stuff is more important for your electronics and how it processes the audio than it is for your ears. It can have a positive effect that you may (or may not) be able to hear, but, it really depends on your audio chain.

- This isn't meant to sound smug, it's intended as practical, potentially money-saving advice: If you don't have, at the very least, a dedicated DAC, or if you don't know what that is, you don't need to spend your hard-earned $$ on this.

- The mix/master is BY FAR the most important element, in my experience, to great sounding audio. Just like everything else, the principle of "garbage in/garbage out applies. You can have GREAT sounding hi-res that is appreciably better-sounding than the equivalent CD, but, the quality needs to have been there from the onset. From everything I've read,this is an exceptionally well-recorded album, so, I am extremely hopeful that this will be a stand-out high-resolution experience.

- In terms of Gigaton, in particular, I would wager my pinky that this will be released in only 24/44. Most newly-recorded music is being primarily distributed in this way over the past few years. 24/96 and 24/192 are largely reserved for archived content.
