Pearl Jam doesn't make perfect albums. At their best, they make records with highs that are so consistent and high that they make up for the lows. After who knows how long of being a fan you don't recognize that because you want a perfect album from them. That's the first reason you're the problem. The second reason is that Gigaton is maybe their first perfect album and yet the one thing about Gigaton you can't get over is that it isn't quite perfect.Strat wrote:It sucks and you should feel shame.FlatSideofaDog wrote:You are the problem, Strat.Monkey_Driven wrote:Agree with all of this. Its better than i originally felt but it still pretty much sucks.
I am in the camp that...with a reworked melody and different lyrical approach...the monster that is of the earth musically (saw it in denver, incredible) would have been perfect in this spot.
Retrograde doesn't bring me to the place that is needed before coming down to River Cross.
that said, i do love the ending.

The way they kind of sandbag the first half compared to the second, this one could potentially really pop live.Leatherhead wrote:Matt's drumming in the first half of Retrograde doesn't help, but then he's a highlight in the second half.

Very true. I still like the song, but this one probably would have been stronger if it was about 75% instrumental and then have Ed come in at the end.littlecomment wrote:The way they kind of sandbag the first half compared to the second, this one could potentially really pop live.Leatherhead wrote:Matt's drumming in the first half of Retrograde doesn't help, but then he's a highlight in the second half.

The only legitimate complaint about Retrograde I've seen here is that Sirens is so bad it makes other songs bad.
