I do. I’ve even warmed to Buckle Up.
I so so so wish Retrograde was a good song. That spot erally needed it.

Its better than i originally felt but it still pretty much sucks.

I am in the camp that...with a reworked melody and different lyrical approach...the monster that is of the earth musically (saw it in denver, incredible) would have been perfect in this spot.

Retrograde doesn't bring me to the place that is needed before coming down to River Cross.
Yeah, I keep trying with Retrograde too. I just can't. It's not good. I find myself skipping it more and more.
i haven't ventured into the Retrograde thread, so maybe this has been discussed. but for me the song's downfall is Ed's vocal melody. there's something with the instrumental that could work... something about it feels like a Zeppelin / happy Mad Season / Chris Cornell "Seasons" feel to it.... but they just turned the song too happy sounding. they leaned into that "Amongst the Waves" equation. the lyrics are fine, they just... i dunno... after all of the songs before it that feel like a real evolution, the song just feels like they took a step back.

that said, i do love the ending.
Agree with all of this. The vocals just kill the song for me. Which is a shame, because Ed is a real highlight for most of the album.
You are the problem, Strat.
It sucks and you should feel shame.
Pearl Jam doesn't make perfect albums. At their best, they make records with highs that are so consistent and high that they make up for the lows. After who knows how long of being a fan you don't recognize that because you want a perfect album from them. That's the first reason you're the problem. The second reason is that Gigaton is maybe their first perfect album and yet the one thing about Gigaton you can't get over is that it isn't quite perfect.

The way they kind of sandbag the first half compared to the second, this one could potentially really pop live.

Very true. I still like the song, but this one probably would have been stronger if it was about 75% instrumental and then have Ed come in at the end.

They should have asked for my opinion.

The only legitimate complaint about Retrograde I've seen here is that Sirens is so bad it makes other songs bad.
