i'm not sure what's worse: that top 20 from stip (the fact that parachutes is not on it automatically disqualifies it) or the realization that pearl jam has made so few good songs since 2000.

The fact that you lost it after Binaural and Riot Act is amazing, stip.

Per the simplest version of the song ranker:

1. Insignificance (Binaural)
2. Of The Girl (Binaural)
3. Seven O'Clock (Gigaton) :search:
4. Parting Ways (Binaural)
5. Parachutes (Avocado)
6. Light Years (Binaural)
7. Sleight Of Hand (Binaural)
8. Grievance (Binaural)
9. Nothing As it Seems (Binaural)
10. Quick Escape (Gigaton) :search:
11. I Am Mine (Riot Act)
12. Dance of the Clairvoyants (Gigaton) :search:
13. Buckle Up (Gigaton) :search:
14. Rival (Binaural)
15. Sirens (Lightning Bolt)
16. 1/2 Full (Riot Act)
17. River Cross (Gigaton) :search:
18. The End (Backspacer)
19. Can't Keep (Riot Act)
20. Help Help (Riot Act)

Pretty close to what I thought would be there overall.

I definitely wouldn’t have any songs from Backspacer or Lightning Bolt on that list.

A 5 is the perfect song, so I gave it a 4. It's a 4.25, if i get picky.

Really, really beautiful song. The verses are outstanding, the chorus is average and the end is very good.

At the time they were two despondent mopey albums, which is not generally what I want from Pearl Jam. It was like watching a slowly extinguishing fire, especially since No Code and Yield were both let downs from the highs of the first 3 albums. Both of those albums got better for me in the aftermath of S/T (and the WWS single - which was a return to the screaming spitfire energy I had been missing), when they became choices to appreciate and enjoy for what they were in the context of the arc of their career.

And to be clear, I still liked those albums. I like every PJ album. But it halted what I saw as a decline.

This one may have to grow, wasn't that taken by it after the first listen. I definitely get the Pink Floyd (music) and Springsteen (vocals) comparisons though
