His bullshit is too nonsensical to even get angry about at this point. I don't even know what he's talking about with the 'groove' comment, and Eddie being good and loud, and does he think his readers are 12 years old?

I love a good RMing session, and I'm good at it.

Without him, they may not have finished the record at all from what it sounds like.

You put ANY of the 3 outtakes in that spot and you've got a MUCH better record.
Education should have followed God's Dice, as evidenced in my killer playlist below...

This, to me, is the takeaway:
BOB said about SBM wrote:Eddie sent me his record before it came out to see if I liked it. I said: “There’s one song on here that we’re gonna steal, because it’s a Pearl Jam song as far as I’m concerned. And there are gonna be the fans who know that record. I don’t know that the rest of the world’s gonna know that song that much.” His record actually ended up doing much better than I thought it would… but I just thought a lyric like that with him singing it is so unusual, and it’s such a sweet, direct, straightforward song that I felt like we needed it very much.
I'm surprised he gave such a direct answer on this. Interesting that Ed would send him the record to get his opinion. I'm also surprised he thought only a smattering of people would listen to Uke Songs and that no one would remember SBM. He knows that almost every PJ fan, at a minimum, was going to get that record. And STILL, he went through with putting it on LB. Flattery will get you everywhere.

Also, artists are often insecure about their art, and in that sense you can see where a guy like Brendan O'Brien, with his confidence in moving forward and creating without wasting time, would be appealing.

The pros are, when they’re ready to do something a little more outgoing, significant – whatever you want to call it, that’s what I call it, I can’t help myself! – they call me again.
I...just..

At least he knows he sounds stupid when he says it.

I think BO'B had no idea how many people would like, or remember, SBM or Uke Songs because he has no idea how many people like Pearl Jam anymore. He has no idea about the relatively gigantic fanbase and what their feelings and opinions are about anything. It's not his job to care. All he 'knows' is that their move away from his expertise was career suicide, and now they're back.

it's funny that BOB has been doing all the press so far for this, and the band is nearly mum. makes it feel like a BOB record, not a PJ one.

What's really worrying here is his direct reference to the fact that Ed didn't listen to him. Well, look at the amazing records they produced out of that conflict... and now he's happy to do what BO'B wants, so you get Backspacer. I know this is a totally obvious point by now, it's just interesting how he skirts dangerously close to it here. He's almost saying you can put the old era's "cool music" to bed, because it ain't happenin' again.

They're doing a big PR project that includes Apatow and gang. It's on the way.

The speculation starved should be happy BOB's out there tossing out gems. Otherwise there'd be nothing and we'd be left with a pointless thread.

Wait.

Yeah I was thinking the same about BOB doing a lot of the press. I wouldn't put myself in any particular camp re. his influence being good or bad for the band but he doesn't come across as a very like able dude in what I've read so far.

Exactly this. The more I read of this stuff, the less I find myself looking forward to a PJ album. Where are PJ?

Wait.
I would rather read and hear nothing than have it all filtered to me through O'Brien. That radio interview with Mike ended up being quite a lovely breath of fresh air. It was like finding an old friend locked up in a cellar and fighting to get him back again.
