Who Ever Said and Seven O'Clock have been climbing since I've got a proper copy of this.

Thanks Anders - updated the main post.

Despite being a huge huge tom waits fan, pearl jam's 'weirder' side never did all that much for me - at least compared to the rest of their music. But Alright, Buckle Up, River Cross, and especially Dance all really hit it out of the park. 4 great songs, and one quite possible top 20 all timer

So does anyone want to guess the Pitchfork review?

I am going to go super high, and say 5.9.

They really hate this band.

Untill about 20 hours ago i was a member of the no leak club. Bought in the store and have been listening to it for a couple of times already.
I feel it's their best record since Riot Act. S/T was also good, but I like that Gigaton explores more ideas.

My song ranking after 1 day:

-DOTC
-Quick Escape
-Allright
-Comes then goes
-Who Ever Said
-River Cross
-7 O Clock
-Take the Long Way
-Buckle Up
-Superblood Wolfmoon
-Retrograde
-Never Destination

I’d love to hear that. LB has potential, it’s just neutered in every fucking possible way. Open it up, let it breathe, and cut the shit, and they may have something.

The only firm skipper on the album for me.
It’s falling in my rankings too, but moreso because the rest of Gigaton keeps growing in my esteem, and my familiarity with SBWM is no longer an advantage. I’m finding the same thing happening with Dance (to a lesser degree).
No, are you kidding. Dance is brilliant.
I want a whole "concept" album full of Dances.
Dance of the Naysayers
Dance of the Superbloods
Dance of the Clairvoyants
Dance of the Escapists
Dance of Yourself
Dance of Seven O'Clock
Dance of More Denial
Dance of the Long Way
Dance of No Harm
Dance of Come and Go
Dance of the Round
Dance Across River

So far, Alright benefits the most from the "visualizer" - quite peaceful floating around those expansive landscapes.

Really glad you like them, they're among my favourites. :hooray:

PS Is it now time to fully admit that I quite like the song Lightning Bolt?

Id actually love that too. And I love that song. My comment was more about familiarity bias, or the opposite of, and how it was affecting my rankings of the songs.

You know. Honestly?

It's like...in some ways, this might be the album with the most love put into it since Ten.

I don't think it's their second best album, but I DO think they have never done an album since Ten where every song is this worth listening to. In Ten that's due to consistency. In this it's actually variety. A lot of their albums are full of filler tracks. I don't think there's much of any on this album. Not since Ten can I say that (or maybe, arguably Vs.). They do experiment with different sounds on No Code but I don't think that every song on No Code is as successful in its genre as the ones on this album at all. Yield, Binaural, Riot Act all have a ton of throwaway tracks. Are any of them as fully formed as these?

I mean...I prefer the sound of those earlier albums. They were better in terms of a lot of things...but in terms of strictly the songwriting, I think this is maybe their most consistent and interesting since Ten.

That does NOT make it the best, but I dunno...can any other album compare there?

Just some early numbers on the new youtube videos.

Who Ever Said- 37k
Alright- 12k
Seven O’Clock- 17k
Never Destination- 8.1k
Take the Long Way- 10k
Buckle Up- 7.9k
Comes Then Goes- 20k
Retrograde- 15k
River Cross- 7k

They really should have made it so that you could watch and listen to the album in one go on YouTube.

Trying to skip around from track to track in order is a pain in the ass.

Vitalogy is my favourite, but I don't go to it for an entirely comfortable no-skips playthrough

for that, there's Vs. and Riot Act

I think that's it

I normally have the EQ set to bass booster on my phone.

Not this though. No need. It sounds fantastic

mjd, you are on point with this album. I think I believe (or an willing to acknowledge) that this may be a top 5 PJ album, you seem to be flirting with the ideas, I like that. This is a genuinely masterful album.

Never Destination and Take the Long Way are kind of washed out bass-wise
