Because I don't like it? It sounds like Sirens with a bit of a Riot Act aesthetic, but that's not enough to save it.

They gave it a 6.2. I think they started reviewing albums with Riot Act. These are the scores:

Gigaton: 6.2
Lightning Bolt: 5.0
Backspacer: 4.6
Avocado: 5.5
Riot Act: 4.9

In other words, the best album since at least Binaural. =)
I hear “Pitchfork” given all this great import on this site and others. Why the fuck am I supposed to give more weight to their review than other music sites again?
you are actually supposed to give them less weight. i didnt think they were still around
Just saw they gave a violin n harp album an 8.0
Damn, you guys really expend a lot of energy worrying about what review outlets think. Is that violin and harp album not worthy of its score based solely on the instrumental makeup of the performances? Now you've got me curious. Do you remember what album that is? I want to see if it earns the 8.0.

I want to hear it too! An all violin and harp album sounds amazing to me.

It’s fine, I just wanted to push him beyond dropping into a thread and saying something sucks. It’s more about his posting prowess than actual opinions.

Every single song on this except Never Destination are creeping up rather than down for me. In stark contrast to every album since Binaural.

We've all got our roles to play, babypaw
We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

Well, this is what I learned so far

chud: "7 o'clock sounds like Sirens"

spenno: "Quick Escape is too noisy"

dime: "You'll be horrified to find out DotC is the only good song on Gigaton"

Long time posters whose opinions can't be trusted anymore

0700 is very AOR...it's got 80's production flourishes which were highly desirable by radio programmers at that time. Sirens was essentially the 21st century equivalent of that aesthetic and mindset, so, I get it from a production standpoint, but, beyond that, the actual substance and lyrical intent couldn't be more different.
