Ok so the Gigaton roundtable was not five hours, unless they somehow kept going after River Cross. It was basically everyone praising the album. The Rob blew his load a few times.

My CD came today and I'm listening on headphones now -- no question this album is an overwhelmingly more impactful experience when you're listening to it in an uncompromised format. I'm up through "Take the Long Way" and even the lesser songs are really packing a wallop.

it's just a shockingly solid album; I don't dislike anything on it, and at last my "complaints" are not "X thing ruins the album"

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Gigaton. The music is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of music theory most of the songs will go over a typical listeners head. There's also Matt’s nihilistic drums, which is deftly woven into his beats - his personal rhythm draws heavily from 70s UK ska, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these songs, to realise that they're not just catchy - they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Gigaton truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the majesty in Eddie’s existential proclamation "Positve...positive! Positive!," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Eddie Vedder’s genius wit unfolds itself into their ears. What fools.. how I pity them.
And yes, by the way, i DO have a Gigaton tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
I just fucking love this album. I have a few friends that I once got to share in the excitement and wonder of pearl jam. Concerts, albums, all the things.
They have moved on from Rock music in general so i dont think they even care to listen to this album and that makes me sad.
But, life goes on.
I have RM.

The biggest flaw on the album is Eddie's "HEEEEEEE" in seven O-clock

If I may ask, did you order your CD through the 10C? I ordered the vinyl and CD through 10C. My vinyl arrived on Saturday but my CD is still a no show. Was wondering if I should start to worry.Kevin Davis wrote:My CD came today and I'm listening on headphones now -- no question this album is an overwhelmingly more impactful experience when you're listening to it in an uncompromised format. I echo most everyone's positive sentiments on the album after listening through the weekend, hoping to post something more substantial by tmrw.

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
To me, Buckle Up and Alright sound like true mellow Pearl Jam songs and fit perfectly on this album; like they were carefully crafted by the entire band.
If there's one flaw though, I feel there's a bit too much of an EV solo strangle hold on this album.
As others have noted, there's really not a dud on the entire album, but songs like Seven O'Clock, Retrograde, and River Cross could so easily fit on an EV solo record. I for one love EV's solo work, but when I want to listen to his solo work, I'll go listen to his solo work.
I could probably even add Comes Then Goes to this list, but I feel for whatever reason that song fits so perfectly (on top of being a homage to Chris) that I can't fathom removing it from Gigaton.
All this said, Seven O'Clock has grown on me tremendously over the weekend after my initial lukewarm wtf reaction. River Cross is gorgeous but feels out of place; I get that feeling with Retrograde too (again, not a bad song).
I'm sure as I keep listening my thoughts will change. On another note, I think this could possibly be the best produced PJ album ever. I mean god damn Evans really hit this one out of the park. They would be foolish to ever go back to BoB at this rate. The bass line on Quick Escape is pure sex
