if someone told me this was the best song on vitalogy I don't think I'd agree, but I wouldn't argue. And saying that on a record that includes tremor Christ, corduroy, immortality, betterman, and nothingman is saying quite a lot.

One of the greatest opening tracks ever. And it helps that it's on one of the greatest albums ever. It's one of those songs that even if I'm a total Pearl Jam dry spell and have no desire to listen to them whatsoever I still find myself instantly engaged by when it randomly comes on.

Spot on Lament. It's one that I never tire of.

It has such a massive groove and relentless crunch that it's easy to miss what a melodic tour-de-force it is. I didn't really notice it until I heard that "String Quartet Tribute to Pearl Jam" CD, where the groove and crunch were both absent and all that was left to propel the song was the melody and harmony. It was far and away the best track on the collection.

As the years have gone by this has moved into #1 territory for me. As good as they get.

A song in which composition, melody and rhythm blend perfectly.

It's one of the Vitalogy songs (officially) credited to the whole band.

I don't recall if they've ever discussed who came in with the musical idea originally.

I've always wondered cause it doesn't really sound like any one of them too me its really jerky and off kilter. I guess it could be Jeff. For some reason I had assumed it was ed just because I thought it was er...punkier or weirder. Aaaand I've just guessed at half the band.

Will "Getaway" into MYM be anything like it? We'll see.
