I like this song a lot, but Eddie sounds so bad in the first "MORE DENIAAL"

Re: Never Destination
It's a good, but not great song. Like a few others on this album, it really redeems itself in the back half.

Re: Never Destination
it has an edge to it that this one doesn't. Which is fine - different songs trying to do different things. SBWM was not an instant hit for me, but there was a stretch where i liked it more and more with each listen to the point that it's now something close to a 5 star song for me.theplatypus wrote:How could anyone possibly think "Superblood Wolfmoon" is better than this song

Re: Never Destination
I love SBWM, but Never Destination just keeps getting better. Quick Escape & Who Ever Said are my 2 favorites so far, but I am currently debating which I like best after those 2 - it's between ND, Dance... & 7:00.
The middle of this song - where it sounds a bit like Black Red Yellow (to me) is perhaps as "Pearl Jam-ish" as anything on the album, almost like a studio version of a live jam/improv. This song also has a really cool guitar solo and basically everything that follows it is perfect to my ears.

This one is growing on me. Especially after the Variety breakdown where Josh Evans describes this as the record's "surf rock" song. In that context, makes more sense to me.

I'm still really struggling to get into this one. There's just nothing here that is leaping out and grabbing me. I feel like I've heard this type of thing from them before. It's just not landing. Maybe I'm missing something and should give it a better listening experience, but I'm not confident that will reveal anything particularly noteworthy.

Re: Never Destination
This is a perfect song to highlight how some of these songs are growers and not show-ers. I totally didn't latch onto this one in the beginning. But it has really moved up the list. Definitely gets saved by a strong back half, but i'm in general enjoying the whole thing at this point.

Re: Never Destination
This was the song that I latched onto the most in the beginning. It was the one I wanted to listen to right away after I was finished the album. On paper, this is the kind of song I like least from Pearl Jam, but for whatever reason, this song really does it for me. It's just catchy as hell. And I love the groove.

I do really love the groove, yeah. This song as improved for me with each listen. Like Buckle Up, I'm finding more and more to like about it as time goes on.

this may have been said earlier by me or someone else but the wonderful little outro of this song feels exactly like a really good betterman tag

Re: Never Destination
was just thinking of a possibility for the final lines of the song that are done in the style of Petty's "Listen to Her Heart." what if those lines are about Tom and Ed simply changed the gender to throw people off the scent? think of it the other way:
He was a singer in rock and roll band
Had command of all his voices
Turned himself into a hologram
It all came down to choices
So I say til then, never say goodbye
A little trick I play, on my mind
this way, it reads like a tender "til we meet again" to tom petty.

If Supersonic and Lightning Bolt had a baby...it would probably be as predictable and uninspired as this track is.

I thought something similar on my 2-3 listens of this track. Yet it was a mere seed of a thought.evenslow wrote:was just thinking of a possibility for the final lines of the song that are done in the style of Petty's "Listen to Her Heart." what if those lines are about Tom and Ed simply changed the gender to throw people off the scent? think of it the other way:

Re: Never Destination
An Australian radio station (Double J) played this last night. Interesting choice. In that context I heard some Springsteen vibes. This one is growing on me. It ran past LTRP and the like pretty quick.
