This is a good tourney, LV, but it is also reminding me how much bullshit trash out there became popular.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I hate Maroon 5 with a burning passion

Whitney was talented, but not my style, and that song was overplayed for years and years.

I hated I Will Always Love You when it first showed up. It was inescapable, and I was just annoyed by that fact. I've come to really love it in recent years. Whitney crushes this and should crush Maroon 5.

The Bodyguard is a really underrated movie. Classic Costner.

Moves like Jagger would be a strong contender if we did the worst song of all time

"I Will Always Love You":
- Beautiful lovelorn melody and lyrics by the great Dolly Parton
- Stunning vocal performance by Whitney Houston
- Smoother-than-smooth early-90s pop ballad backing track
- Sax solo
- Octave jumps!
- Music video featuring Kevin Costner hologram
"Moves Like Jagger":
- Really sucks
- Irritating early-2010s "funky" pop aesthetic
- Bad song
- Prominently features the lyric "take me by the tongue"
- Embarrassing
- Repeated references to 70 year old man

I’m not over it. Heard it a million times, when I would rather hear Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Guns N’Roses, Metallica etc. But every time they played this wherever I went.durdencommatyler wrote:IT WAS OVERPLAYED BECAUSE IT'S GODDAMN GREAT ANDERSAnders wrote:Whitney was talented, but not my style, and that song was overplayed for years and years.

Re: R1: I Will Always Love You v Moves Like Jagger
I despise IWALY so much. One of the most overblown, shitty performances ever and probably the most overplayed song in history. The dolly parton version is better.
But I also hate Maroon 5.
I think I'm just gonna sit this one out.

Re: R1: I Will Always Love You v Moves Like Jagger
You are talking about your remembered version of the performance. It's actually pretty subdued and smooth for the most part, the big belting doesn't start until the final chorus and it is a steady rise in intensity to that point. And even then it resolves so fucking nicely with those upwards glissandos at the very end, a masterstroke.BurtReynolds wrote:One of the most overblown, shitty performances ever
Her tone is insane and her control is so precise. It's not like the over-the-top Mary J Blige melisma you hear in a lot of r&b

It is on Amazon Prime and I don't believe I ever sat down to watch it specifically, it played on HBO a lot back in the day.wease wrote:Never seen it.LoathedVermin72 wrote:The Bodyguard is a really underrated movie. Classic Costner.
