Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
I just went to the ranker to try and order things for the first time, but there are some that I just don't trust myself to choose between yet. Still gonna take my first half-stab at this anyhow. Songs within tiers are listed chronologically, not ranked.
Top-notch in any era — Who Ever Said, Dance of the Clairvoyants, Quick Escape, Seven O'Clock, Buckle Up
Top-notch post-2002 (at least) — Superblood Wolfmoon, Alright, Comes Then Goes
Good in any era — River Cross
Fine for 30 years in — Never Destination, Take the Long Way
Still...unsure — Retrograde
I'm trying to force myself to be conservative, but that second batch of songs might all just be great, plain and simple. It's pretty insane.

Has anybody gotten this off HD Tracks yet? Wondering what this one sounds like on a good soundsystem.

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
Buckle Up is the only song I haven’t yet fallen in love with, but it has grown from a song that I initially thought was a piss break into something I actually am not wanting to skip at all. Probably 3 Stars for me right now. Maybe 3.5. I have stated my love for SBWM since the day the single way released, and I think every other song is better. This is a magical album. It may go down as my favorite one day.
Rankings as of today:
Quick Escape
Take the Long Way
Dance of the Clairvoyants
River Cross
Who Ever Said
Seven O’Clock
Never Destination
Retrograde
Comes Then Goes
Alright

Lost Dogs is not an album. It is more like a B-Sides greatest hits.
And I think it is a wonderful collection. I can only think of a couple of bands who can make a double album out of stuff that did not make it onto an actual album.
I mean yes the Beatles, but they existed in a world of singles, where a b-side could become a hit.
But Lost Dogs is a collection of songs, that were not made with the intent of being part of a whole. But it still works out great.

Has it been acknowledged that Eddie Vedder is the MVP of Gigaton?

Right now the Quick Escape - Alright sequence feels like a slog to me. I might start to agree with Spenno on Quick Escape.

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
I've changed my song ranking about 5 times. Final ranking. I don't see how I could rank it any other way. If someone likes slow, mid tempo and hard rock, 1-4 are automatically very good or else there's no justice in the world. 5-12 just depends on the listener and like Binaural or Right Act , Gigaton could be considered great or just an album with 3 or 4 good songs.
1. Seven O’Clock
2. Retrograde
3. Who Ever Said
4. Quick Escape
5. DOTC
6. Take the long way
7. Superblood Wolfmoon
8. Buckle up
9. River Cross
10. Comes Then Goes
11.Never Destination
12. Alright
1. Seven O’Clock
2. Retrograde
3. Who Ever Said
4. Quick Escape
5. DOTC
6. Take the long way
7. Superblood Wolfmoon
8. Buckle up
9. River Cross
10. Comes Then Goes
11.Never Destination
12. Alright

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
I am so late for the party, but this is a solid 4 star album for me. Their best since Riot Act. I've been on a jazz trip lately and haven't listened the album in over a week, but this was my ranking after the first couple of listens:
Favorites:
Quick Escape
Alright
Dance
Who Ever Said
Pretty good:
Never Destination
Take The Long Way (you could tell immediately this was a Matt song)
Comes Then Goes
Alright:
Retrograde
River Cross
Buckle Up
7:00
Superblood Wolfmoon (I don't hate it in the album context as much as I did at first)
It's been said so many times already, but the album sounds great, and I am so glad they ditched Brendan. Let's hope we still see these guys in Europe some day

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
Lost Dogs is an album of original studio recordings, with many songs that were never heard anywhere before ... and it' a double album. It's a technicality, but I call it a studio album. If no one else will, I'm gonna. Any ranking I ever come out with is going to include it.C4lukin wrote:Tuolumne wrote:When can we talk about the fact that they have 12 TWELVE albums? Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
The problem with Lost Dogs is that if we consider it a proper "Album" well then im going to rank it as number 1. So, must tread lightly.Tuolumne wrote:Lost Dogs is an album of original studio recordings, with many songs that were never heard anywhere before ... and it' a double album. Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
I have not stopped being exhausted/sated by the time Comes Then Goes finishes - Retrograde and River Cross, whatever their merits, suffer from a feeling of having to push through to the end of the album.
