Ed has made a point to write those highlight screams in a handfull of PJ openers (Save You, Breakerfall, GSMF) but his "Let my spirirt pass" scream in this song will forever be the best. It is one of my favorite vocal moments in their catalog.

Keep the inanity contained in the one place, that's all I'm saying.harmless wrote:That was meant to be a positive commentBirds in Hell wrote:Keep it out of this thread, pal.
I'm just no good at this Internet thing anymore.

I love this song so much.
I'm pretty sure this is my favorite album opener.

Re: Song of the Moment: Last Exit
I just absolutely love the way the melody of the chorus rises and falls and rises again, and some really unusual chords follow it. It's Ed's way of the chords following the tune, but it might be the most creative he's ever been with the technique.

I love the guitar tones on this song, and Dave A. does a great job too, his snare / kick really drive the song for me. I love everything about it.

I'm pretty sure it was Jeff's idea, despite the album credits.Birds in Hell wrote:It's one of the Vitalogy songs (officially) credited to the whole band.
I don't recall if they've ever discussed who came in with the musical idea originally.

Vitalogy is easily Dave A's high point with the band. His playing fits perfectly and he toned down some of his tendency for excess.darth_vedder wrote:Dave A. does a great job too

Re: Song of the Moment: Last Exit
This track has enjoyed being constantly replayed in the past few weeks for me.
Anyone have that? Of course you know the songs but your mind has some draft lottery balls stored and way hay this week, it's your turn to replay [random song] for weeks to come.

I would never watch a new PJ gig with Dave A. Knowing that he isn't taking over from Matt permanently would make it a depressing experience.melonhead4 wrote:Dave def owns this track, actually he owns the whole album and VS too.....im hoping he plays with them at th RR HOF induction...i could see ed letting that happen....

I've read it's a stone song. makes sense to me. he also wrote satan's bed IIRC and they both have chunks of 5/4 (i think)
