I agree with this 100%RockPusher wrote:I recently realized what it was about Parachutes that I didn't like: it feels like a song in need of a different singer. I love Eddie, but his delivery, at least in the studio version, feels quite strained to me in a way that does not flow naturally from the song's themes. I think this may be a reason why Buckle Up does work for me- because what pieces of strain I hear in Ed's delivery this time do seem to work well within the song. There's a trepidation to the breathy way he sings the words "Buckle up" that just makes sense, for instance.OmegaprimeVKM wrote:This reminds me of Parachutes - that whole swirling, hazy, ouroboros strumming pattern. Like the threat of a lullaby.
I didn't really get Parachutes either. It's not really for me, yet. I'm going to keep trying because it has something to it that has me a little hooked.

This is balderdash. Parachutes is a gem

Re: Buckle Up
Yeah, I'm with Stip here. I adore Parachutes, but not because of Ed. Nor would I say that Ed's work on the song is bad by any stretch. But it isn't an Ed performance for the ages. Just like with Buckle Up I wish Stone sang Parachutes, actually. I think it would make an already great song even better.Strat wrote:well that is because you think lightning bolt is top tier pearl jam.stip wrote:i love parachutes, but I never saw it as an Ed highlightStrat wrote:oh my god you psychos. Re: Buckle Up
Yeah both of these songs are great despite Ed, and I think would be even better with Stone singing them.

Re: Buckle Up
I love Ed´performance on Buckle Up. I dont need Stone on this one....Parachutes? yeah maybe it could be cool to have a demo with Stone...but my only problem with the studio version is the production, specially the layered vocals of Eddie.durdencommatyler wrote:Yeah, I'm with Stip here. Re: Buckle Up
I love Stone, but I really don't want him singing. I remember taking a friend to see Pearl Jam at the Greek Theater in Berkeley in 1993 and telling him about how much PJ reminded me of The Who, specifically my favorite album Who's Next, and lo and behold, at that show, they fucking covered Baba O'Riley, and it was amazeballs until Stone started squealing "Teeeeeeeenage Wasteland"
