Here is my abridged Gigaton

I don't get "abridging" any album; either it succeeds or fails imo

Makes absolutely no sense to me...Abridging an album is an insult to the intention of the artist, IMO.

I could see making a shuffled or truncated playlist for the gym, or maybe a run, but, to disregard entire portions of an artistic statement? Not a fan...

Diff'rent Strokes n' all that, I get it, but, I'm admittedly a dinosaur...I'm a full album listener.

I mean yeah, but it's also not that serious. All abridging and retracking goes against the original intentions of the artist, but that's okay. I also abridged Gigaton because there are 3 tracks I just never want to listen to, and I think it holds together better as a shorter album. This is very easy to do with playlists. Am I spitting in the face of the art? I'm not concerned. Retracking, compiling and retooling has always been part of how I listen to music

Like I said, Diff'rent Strokes. To me, it is that serious, and it is that meaningful. I'm fully acknowledging that 99.7% of the music-listening population likely doesn't care to such an extent, and I'm completely fine with that. I listen with my ears and my brain only. Anyone else is entitled to do as they see fit.

to be clear, I wasn't saying it was serious or wrong or anything, it's just an impulse I don't "get"; I think it would be easier if I did, I could just take that song that ruins the album... off the album; I'm an extremely all or nothing person, for better and worse

Don't get me wrong...I can enjoy some songs more than others. I'm just saying that when I listen to an album, any album by a band I enjoy, I'm listening to the entire thing.

I realize I'm probably in the minority these days.

all the time.

But i also spend time listening to the entire albums front to back. With all of my favorite bands.

I have workout playlists, skiing playlists, biking playlists, sleeping playlists, meditation playlists.


But I dont re-track and album and listen to it as the definitive experience.

I think I listen to full albums more than most people these days, but I still skip tracks I don't like or that I'm not in the mood for at that moment. That's not a betrayal of the artist

I listen to single songs all the time, over and over, but never curate playlists

my partner is all about the playlists; listening to an album straight through is a chore for them; everything is singles and playlists

the good thing about my attitude to albums is that if I like more than half of an album, I will work extremely hard to give the rest time to grow in context to the whole thing; Pearl Jam has earned more of that time from me than any other band

I listen to albums. Pretty much very every artist...then, i listen to the songs i like the most.
