«Johnson’s voting record, is generally in line with his party. He has rebelled only on a few occasions: opposing raising university tuition fees, supporting LGBTQ rights, and backing stronger regulation of the gambling industry.»

Is it just Boris, or do you wish this on their entire party?

Would I like my enemies to succeed, or not to succeed? Hmm, good question.

"Someone like Boris Johnson" - or Boris Johnson, which is it?

Has Boris Johnson ever espoused views which were unambiguously motivated by hate?

I can't help but think that all this talk of things fundamentally changing after the virus is just wishful thinking.

Things are just gonna go back to normal, aren't they? Even though "back to normal" is the worst outcome.

We'll have a sustained period of finger-pointing and blaming vis a vis the election. Corporations won't hire back but a fraction of those who have lost their jobs, and will erase any thought of a new work paradigm by assuring those who are employed that they're "lucky to even have a job."
I'm trying real hard to be the shepherd.

Gonna be interesting to see how many people actually go back to work if we "reopen" before June, but schools remain closed and these temporary unemployment insurance rules/supplement allow people to stay home for 4 months.

Best guess: it’s the crows from the UW, about a mile down the road. All of the discarded college food disappeared, and it hasn’t come back, so they’re getting desperate. And because I live near the children’s hospital (currently an operational construction site) it’s one of the few places left nearby with consistent opportunities.
Just watched a homeless man melt down screaming and sobbing across the street after finding no food in the bus stop trash. Heart wrenching.

Before we could manifest a plan to help, a children’s hospital security guard came out and directed him to a food bank. But it was painful to watch, and it made me think about those university crows, wandering the city in hungry desperation. A lot of people in trouble out there.

More evidence that the non-COVID fallout from this is going to be much worse that the actual people who die from the virus.

Keep an eye on suicide rates. Yikes.

Nothing new here but I can't cycle back through 150 pages.

Domestic Violence victims ... damn a whole new layer of hell for them right now.

Kids can't go to school ... but it's not kids who are getting sick from this ... anyway what are these kids doing without the structure of school?

Bankruptcy and desperation left and right.

I dunno man, part of me still feels like the elderly and smokers are the ones who need to lock themselves up and just let the rest of us live our damn lives.

Another one that didn’t age well, this time from New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Oxiris Barbot on 09.Feb:

https://www.amny.com/editorial/city-lea ... chinatown/

Dr. Barbot said: “The risk for New Yorkers of the coronavirus is low, and our preparedness as a city is very high. While it is understandable that people feel anxious, that is no way shape or form an excuse for them to use that as an opportunity to spread misinformation, to spread racist ideas because that is currently the greatest risk to New Yorker’s.”

And deBlasio doing his thing on 11.March:

“ If you’re not sick, you should be going about your life”

I wish them luck, but some of the places in East Asia that have loosened their restrictions are seeing upticks in cases again. Until there is a real treatment or vaccine, I doubt there will be a real, lasting "opening up" anywhere. I get that we can't stay in lockdown forever, but this seems too soon.

Sweden never locked down at all. Countries that don't lick doorknobs at Wal Marts like the USA might have okay results.
