haha, I always said this song had most in common with SW
Which always vaguely reminded me of the

Taking on, on, on, on,
Taking on, on, on, on, on, on bit from Thin Air
yes
Other than the repetition (Granted, that is a thing), I don't get a lot of swallowed whole here. I think the song Swallowed Whole actually has the most in common with is Who Ever Said.

I do see the Thin Air connections, though
Huh? What similarities do you see between WES and SW?

Vinyl, you a true G, and it makes me happy to see everyone so excited about a new PJ record, but, better than Exit-Circle-Not-Christ, or Sometimes-Hail-WYA-Tree?

N'ah, yo
Vitalogy has a great sequence yes, but i might love Quick Escape more than Tremor Christ. And DOTC is way more different than Not For You. And while i love the 1-2 combo of Sometimes- Hail, Hail, i prefer DOTC and QE to Who You re and In My Tree.

Im not talking about individual songs, but the sequence itself.
the flow in no code in generally is pretty weak, methinks. Some jarring transitions and I think that album in general has some trouble developing or sustaining a mood across multiple songs
yeah, but thats why i love it so much...the 1-2 combo of sometimes and hail, hail is a unique moment in their catalogue. The same with Off He Goes and Habit.
the lack of "flow" in no code is the entire point of no code.

I don't hear Swallowed Whole in Who Ever Said either. I like SW a lot, but it sounds like an Into The Wild song, converted to a Pearl Jam song (really, not a bad thing). WES sounds like Eddie wrote a Pearl Jam song. WES is definitely in my top 3 for this album.

I love this album but my one nit picky thing is that it would have been even better with another soaring/grooving “rocker” (i.e. not a beginning to end spit all the lyrics out as fast as possible type rocker). Can you see how a song in the style of Faithful or Given to Fly would be great on this album? That song (or another one of the faster paced ones) could break up the slow burn at the end of the album.

It's in the bridges of both songs. The "Home is where" part in WES and then the "With no quiet to be found" in SW is where I hear the similarities.

I've been watching a lot of reaction and review vids on YouTube, and as always it's kind of hilarious how many people still expect this band to be "grunge"

I mean, I could give you a pretentious paragraph about what "grunge" is or was -- it was an amalgamation of several scenes, styles and genres that happened in a particular time and place -- but paradoxically it's also not really one *thing*, and it's a ridiculous thing to be expecting a band to still play in 2020, kind of like expecting Panic! at the Disco or MCR to play "glam"

Mudhoney and TAD are the only two true grunge bands ever.

I would add Soundgarden and Green River. Basically those bands were 100% Seattle grunge.

I'm getting a little stir crazy, but I'm nowhere near the "watch music reviews on YouTube" level of boredom.

I haven't bought TV spoons in awhile, I'm sure the standards have changed.
