I wouldn't vote for Chris Cornell's Billie Jean over a lot of these songs. But Jackson's should probably win this whole thing. The sex/gender of the artist has fuck all to do with it.
Sinead's version of this song is immaculate. Not because she's a woman, but because in this particular song her phrasing is heartbreaking and visceral. She uses her instrument masterfully. I think she's a genius and this is top tier Sinead. Her version of this song has so much emotion, empathy, compasion, and nuance. It's a layered and unfolding experience bordering on profound.
All Night Long doesn't hold a candle to it. And I like All Night Long!
