I've been watching a lot of reaction and review vids on YouTube, and as always it's kind of hilarious how many people still expect this band to be "grunge"

I'll probably check a few out when I go down the You Tube rabbit hole again.
Dua Lipa released her album the same day and there was *a lot* of mentions in my social media feeds about that. I know it two very different genres and fan bases but I'm curious how their counts (sales, downloads, streams, etc) would compare.

Dua Lipa released her album the same day and there was *a lot* of mentions in my social media feeds about that. I know it two very different genres and fan bases but I'm curious how their counts (sales, downloads, streams, etc) would compare.

One of the funny things I've discovered about these international bands like Dua Lipa and 5 Seconds of Summer is that their young fan bases really, REALLY care about how they do on the album sales chart. Like, to a stalker-ish crazy sort of level. It's actually been funny to watch. The 5 Seconds of Summer fan base was revolting this week on social media because of how Billboard was counting their album sales. I was seeing it all because PJ was tagged alongside the top lists.

I figure this has to be a cultural thing. I know these artists are all young with teenage fans but I don't think American kids give a crap about where their favorite artists lands on the chart. They're not losing sleep over it, at least.

It's nice to see artists you care about be successful in the marketplace. There is also a sense of self-satisfaction that comes from seeing your tastes and opinions be validated by popular endorsement. Neither is a bad thing.

Also in some cases it comes from the artists..i think it was selena gomez or demi lovato who begged their fans to buy the album? and she posted herself buying a tons of cds? It was so sad.

Hits has “Gigaton” debuting at #2 for sales, behind only 5 Seconds Of Summer’s “CALM” (114K). Yeah, I made a point to spend the window I had this afternoon to only listen to the second half. "Side A" is aces, plain and simple; "Side B" is where I'm still feeling some stuff out. But I was doing work and had a great semi-attentive experience with ND, TTLW, and Retrograde. Just let them be in my ears a bit more passively than I generally have, but each one reached up and grabbed me several times with good stuff they were doing.
