I won't be sitting out. People just need to get real and stop being condescending about this shit. We don't want free stuff. We want to not suffer in the richest country on Earth. That's it. The need for actual public health is being proven every day with this virus, and Bernie was our best shot for that.

Yup, this all gets framed as if it's just young people without much life experience, but it's not. Support for Bernie really starts to build around the middle of Generation X.

Turnout did not go up as much as he needed. That's just a fact. More older voters than younger ones in the exit polls. Of course that doesn't mean he couldn't have done better in this regard in the general.
Right--so young voters are not voting for Bernie enough to win the primary, but they're also not going to turn out enough for Biden to win the presidency because he's not progressive enough? Starts to sound like someone in this thread just wants to blame young people.

This virus is perfectly timed.

It doesn’t discriminate between red and blue states and an utterly incompetent president and a fucked up so called health care system into the bargain.

You’d hope there’s gonna be some changes when the dust settles and the rich old fucks shitting on everyone else while also bleeding them and their government all die off.

True, but it's absolutely blowing the lid off of NYC. It's easy for him to blame the liberals for that.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

I don't know if you mean me here. I don't blame young people. Voting habits by age have been tracked a long time, and candidates need to take that into account. That's their job. The one thing Biden and his team shouldn't do is try to shame or scare younger people into voting for him. My guess is that Team Biden is counting on Hillary-level youth voting (basically get the same vote all around she did) and hoping to gain the extra votes needed to win in the suburbs, which does have the potential to be this year's swing vote.

Which is still hard to take, given he is from freaking Queens. I have to believe it will slowly start to affect southeast Florida over time. He loves it there, so maybe he'll start to care then?

I definitely don't mean you--I mean the guy posting bad memes about youth voters. But I'm pretty suspicious of your final conclusion--this is literally the plan Schumer rolled out in 2016 about picking up Republicans in the suburbs of Philly. It failed, and it failed big time--you can talk about the popular vote margin or whatever but the bottom line is that Hillary ate shit because she's a terribly unlikeable candidate who ran a bad campaign and lost the EC accordingly. Why would that suddenly change this time? If anything, suburban voters are more on-board with Trump. He got them their tax cuts, and he's not the blood and soil nationalist he was made out to be. Life for upper-middle class voters is basically normal. And then consider that Joe Biden lacks the representation angle that certainly drove otherwise apathetic voters to show up for the first female president. So I agree--it's Biden's job to figure out how to build a coalition in the face of these challenges. Token handouts to the progressive wing (like yesterday's Medicare announcement) and aggressive courting of centrists is probably not it, and if/when he fails, that's his fault.

And just to preempt it, yes, it is Bernie's fault that he lost the primary, despite the historic consolidation of support behind Biden on the eve of Super Tuesday and the spoiler-role played by Warren. He and his campaign should have been prepared for it, they needed a plan after California, and they didn't have one.

You're welcome to compare the 2018 gains in the House and Senate--composed of a patchwork of various ideologies appealing to various geographic and demographic groups and mirroring a historic trend of opposition victories in the first midterms--with a national presidential election! I wouldn't, but boy are you welcome to!

Importantly, the midterm elections are also determined by electoral college votes distributed at the state level, so I will admit it's a much more apt comparison than the last presidential election against the same opponent.

980 people have died in the UK in the last 24 hours and they are not counting outside of hospitals, meaning nursing homes etc

The British press? Boris is on the mend and the country can breathe a sigh of relief.

No mention of the deaths.

The Sun: DARKEST DAY UK coronavirus death toll jumps 980 in 24 hours in biggest rise yet – more deadly than Spain’s worst day of crisis

The Guardian: Coronavirus: 980 dead in UK hospitals in deadliest day of pandemic yet

The Telegraph: Coronavirus: UK death toll jumps 980 in 24 hours in biggest rise yet – more deadly than Spain’s worst day of crisis

That aside, the Prime Minister being seriously ill in intensive care as a result the virus is genuinely a hugely important news story; it would be the leading story in any country's media.

I’m goin off yesterdays news it seems. But the headlines have all been about boris.
And factor in his complete stupidity only a few weeks ago saying it would blow over and Britain would take it on the chin until it does.
You’d hope his experience now will shake things up and they’ll start giving the NHS and frontline the support they all need.

But absolutely no sign of that happening at all.

This is only weeks ago. Thousands have died and thousands more will because of this.

“ The seasonality of flu and other respiratory viruses has been known for hundreds of years, if not thousands," says Akiko Iwasaki, a professor of immunobiology at the Yale University School of Medicine.
