Which billionaires are we bailing out?

Ok, if you think so, but which billionaires are/were going to get bailed out? That sounds like something Trump would do..BurtReynolds wrote:Doesn't matter.Bi_3 wrote:BurtReynolds wrote:That's great.

What sounds like something Trump would do? bailing out billionaires? As opposed to what president?

I don't care if they are billionaires, millionaires or thousandaires. In a free market, speculators get exactly what they deserve.

Are you saying we shouldn’t bailout a company if the largest shareholder is a billionaire?BurtReynolds wrote:What sounds like something Trump would do? bailing out billionaires? As opposed to what president?

Re: Does anyone care about the economy?
I'm not generally in favor of bailing out billionaires either, but I think the best we can hope for is that there is a bailout that also includes the rest of us.
The devil will always be in the details. Companies employ people, they will need bailouts too. But this does seem like a chance to start tackling some of the institutionalized inequality.

And we also shouldn't be obligated to bail out every fucking corporation that gets into trouble because somewhere there was some working class guy with a handful of shares in the company.BurtReynolds wrote:I'm saying we shouldn't bail out companies to protect billionaires.Bi_3 wrote:Are you saying we shouldn’t bailout a company if the largest shareholder is a billionaire?BurtReynolds wrote:What sounds like something Trump would do? bailing out billionaires? Re: Does anyone care about the economy?
I'm not against your logic there, Burt, but I feel like one giant flaw in the whole system is that there is never a plan for the workers once a company goes out of business. Whether a company goes under, or moves production elsewhere... there is never a plan to transition those workers. They're just on their own. The Capitalist himself took a risk, made a bet, and it's not the government's job to insure him. But it's akin to the "let the banks fail" argument in 2008. For sure they deserved it, and in a way the system demands it, but at what point is the collateral damage too much? Lots of regular people would have suffered financially if the banks all just failed.
Bailouts today should come with conditions. I'm not smart enough to know what's good, but some obvious things - no more stock buy backs. Get corps to raise wages. Make them implement sick/maternity leave, and not just some weak 12 week thing. Things along these lines. They can be free not to take the gov't up on the offer, but no soup for you if you don't.

what kind of record profits are we expecting from the gas companies after they don't lower the price of gas to reflect this? I mean, if I'm paying more for a gallon of gas than they do for a barrel then I had better see some hefty profits and stock value increases!

Just buy a bunch of barrels, fill them with oil or gas, and save them to resell later, Jerry.Peeps wrote:whats the easiest way to buy oil stock for someone who doesnt have any online accounts (easiest place to open an account and buy)
