1 out of 108 New Yorkers (state) has or had the corona.

Why promising?
imagine if you test positive for the antibody while everyone else is on lockdown

the world is your oyster

Fucking truth. :worthy:
Nothing against that piece but it's sparked a counter-idea for me:
That piece has a really strong emotional appeal but doesn't highlight any meaningful actions underway, and pure emotional appeal doesn't overcome my pessimism for U.S. society's appetite to quickly get back to its pre-covid, resource intensive lifestyle.

This is the time to reflect, and an opportunity to take action that can shape new social norms and public policy.
But who's leading the efforts to take action?
And are there sufficient pressures on society to cause lasting positive individual and societal behavioral and lifestyle changes?

It's going to take collective action to shape American society to have less sever inequality, to increase human rights, to be more humane, to increase individual privacy, and so many other things.

Lately I've been down thinking about the downsides to our individualistic society in the U.S. How Americans value the environment for the resources that can be extracted (we're plugged into the resource intensive system) and are so shortsighted about exploring and preserving the other aspects (the other true values) of the natural world.

edit: for clarity.

The other really awful outcome of this is brexit is still ongoing and the current UK government now get to blame the disasterous outcomes of that on this crisis and hide their incompetence and insanity

The British press? Boris is on the mend and the country can breathe a sigh of relief.

No mention of the deaths.
The Sun: DARKEST DAY UK coronavirus death toll jumps 980 in 24 hours in biggest rise yet – more deadly than Spain’s worst day of crisis

The Guardian: Coronavirus: 980 dead in UK hospitals in deadliest day of pandemic yet

The Telegraph: Coronavirus: UK death toll jumps 980 in 24 hours in biggest rise yet – more deadly than Spain’s worst day of crisis

That aside, the Prime Minister being seriously ill in intensive care as a result the virus is genuinely a hugely important news story; it would be the leading story in any country's media.

Thread worth a read Spenno

Also important to remember the tiny cabal of billionaires that own all British media, how they brought about brexit destroyed Corbyn and now this

Rebranding “drafted an H5N1 flu response plan at the height of H5N1 panic” to “tried to prevent ‘this’ (?)” seems pretty generous. Anyways, everybody was drafting plans. Here’s a link to a study that compares 49 state plans.
