I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Just watched Near Dark, and I cannot believe I had never seen it. It was the most 80’s movie I’ve ever seen. They blew up a child.
I think I’ll watch it again now.

I can’t believe that for the entirety of 1987-2020, nobody was ever around to say to me, “hey watch this though.” It’s got moody, VHS rental synth-horror storytelling, Young Guns scenes remade with vampires, Evil Dead 2 horror sequences, and half the cast of Aliens.

yeah, for some reason its still a very dark, almost fanboys type of movie.McParadigm wrote:Yes.VinylGuy wrote:I love it. Its a intense, very character driven movie. Great cast, and some solid performances.Orpheus wrote:I saw one trailer for this and then never saw anything about it again, what did you like about it?VinylGuy wrote:Luce.

I'm very excited to see this. Like Nate, I saw the trailer but then never made it out to see it in theaters. Saw that it's streaming the other day and added it to the list.VinylGuy wrote:Its a intense, very character driven movie. Re: What movies are you watching?
after a few years of barely being able to focus on movies, i'm semi-back...over the last three weeks:
-The Death of Stalin: 4/4. This was quite the experience. Could watch again right now.
-The Full Monty: 3/4. I expected more nudity and vulgarity, to be honest. I don't know what else were possible candidates, but I was shocked to read this was nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. Still a good entertaining, feel good movie.
-MacBeth (2015): 3/4. Looked great and excellent cast, but for some reason didn't fully engage me.
-The Fugitive: 3/4. I guess I expected more. The first hour was really good, but the second half in Chicago felt a little too drawn out.
-Love and Death: 4/4. Can't believe it took me so long to watch this. I know I missed some of the Russian lit references because I haven't read any Tolstoy and a few of the other famous Russian works, but still a ton of laugh out loud moments.
-Logan Lucky: 3.5/4. This was fun, a redneck Oceans movie. I really like Soderbergh. Excellent cast. I've always kinda liked Channing Tatum, but was especially impressed with him here.
-Robin Hood Prince of Thieves: 3/4. Somehow I never saw this growing up. It's probably not as good as I rated it, but i'll always have a soft spot for Kevin Costner. Rickman's over the top performance was a lot of fun. Little John was the heart of this.
-Hostiles: 3.5/4. Not an original story by any means, but a strong cast and execution adds a lot to me.
-The Sisters Brothers: I'm going to hold off on rating this one for now. I loved the book, but the first half of this felt off to me. I went a week before I finished it, but thought it ended strongly. I'm going to have to rewatch it. I did recently purchase the book, so I may re-read it then watch the movie afterward.
i'm pretty disappointed with the streaming options right now, especially since i'm trying not to rewatch movies right now...off the top of my head i do plan on watching parasite, the stanford prison experiment, grave of the fireflies and a few more i'm blanking on soon
