Gonna be a lot more preventable deaths in the world. Cuz, y'know, COVID is the only thing WHO did. They don't save lives in 33,000 other ways.

The WHO may suck, but the problem with the right (and Trump) is that there is never a better idea. Just burn it down. That helps nothing, results in short term pain, and will eventually lead to a realization that an incapable government is a big problem. The White House is showing us a similar dilemma. For 3 years it's seemed like nothing can bring Trump down, but I am convinced that there is big potential for this crisis to bring Trump down. Nothing is ever guaranteed, of course, but we are at best halfway through this lockdown and Trump's "rally around the flag" bounce is gone. He doesn't have the "Obama trajectory" (in regard to stock market rise & unemployment decline) to rely on anymore.

It could cause the WHO to get even more in bed with China, but since the US accounts for 15% of their funding, they might be forced to remember who pays their bills. But this sounds pretty temporary, and knowing Trump, he'll change his mind tomorrow and claim he got some small, inconsequential win out of it.

If you think the WHO is flawed then it seems like the two options are for the US to play a bigger role/influence (which is undermined if we cut funding), or present an alternative, which doesn't seem likely from this admin. Otherwise, you're probably right that it would end up relying more on China.

I'm surprised about Florida. With their later response, I figured their numbers would have been higher. Do you think they aren't testing as much or did they really put a lid on it? If so, does the hotter weather effect the virus negatively?

There is no chance they put a lid on it.

I don't know what's really going on here. I can report that the hospital where my wife works (one of the largest in South Florida) has implemented mandatory hours reductions (25%) for all employees. Salaried and hourly employees have to use their PL to get their full check. But yeah, outpatient stuff has almost completely dried up, inpatient is somewhat normal, and there's a lot of resources going towards testing, but there just isn't enough work at their hospital right now.

You should read it consider what it means for the future. This will be a big part of the election

Whether or not China tried to use coronavirus as a weapon will be a big part of the election? Okay man.

It's an entirely plausible argument.

It's not like I think China didn't obscure the stuff. They clearly did, and made the entire pandemic worse for the rest of the world. I just don't believe that they did it with the intent of purposely infecting people.
