Re: The Strokes
Julian sounds fantastic on this record. Wish the songs had more upbeat tempo to them though.
Not The Same Anymore is really nice. Bit of a Beatles/Lennon melody here. Already sounds like a classic.

Same. Been through this album a few times, and it's still my favorite. Some really nice finger picking in this one.Strat wrote:Not the same is so freeking good I can't get enough of it.

I like this record a lot. It's their No Code moment, IMO.

This seems like 1/2 The Strokes & 1/2 Julian solo album.
Won't match the first 2 (or 3 imo) Strokes albums but I'm diggin this album.

Re: The Strokes
That setlist is actually bonkers. So many bangers from their debut.

Re: The Strokes
Solid B for me. Not as good as their debut, but still decent. A lot of the tunes sound like leftovers from that period. Similar dynamics and almost identical tonally.
Between Love and Hate > You Talk Way Too Much > Meet Me in the Bathroom is a bit of a lull, but the album has a strong opening and tail end.

Re: The Strokes
I fell in love with The Strokes after PJ20 having had their first two records in my CD book since college. Comedown Machine is my favorite to listen to front to back. The New Abnormal is a close second in that regard. I actually like their later output more than their early output. A lot of those early songs run together in my mind, though there are definitely brilliant spots. Is This It, The End Has No End, Reptilia, the whole back half of First Impressions, Macchu Pichu. Just a lot of good stuff everywhere. I wish they toured.
Though they are not Mike McCready and Stone Gossard, I really like Valensi and Hammond. Their playing fits together like a really well-made zipper and is fun to try to deconstruct.

Re: The Strokes
New record coming in June. The album cover is cool. The first single/song you’re allowed to listen to is definitely a strokes song.
