Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. my problem with this stuff is not that it creates a multitude of versions, or that later consumers might get a subjectively subpar version of something, but rather that constantly tinkering with a work is a fuckin' pu**y creative move.*

Let’s not conflate these two issues, though. An artist altering their own work after release is annoying, but it’s not the same thing as a corporation censoring someone else’s art. Both are concerning problems with allowing our media to be controlled by streaming platforms that don’t grant permanent ownership of any specific version, but they’re separate things - the latter being far more sinister and alarming.

The part about the completely unnecessary reboot being helmed by writers and directors who are super talented and could otherwise be making original stories. Reboot culture mostly sickens me, with a few exceptions. The Coen's attachment in particular is a bummer.

Many of the Coen's best films are adaptations though, as is all of Guadagnino's good work...

I also think there's a pretty big difference between like, rebooting the fucking Batman franchise or Back To The Future V (which I agree sucks ass!), and a smart re-take of a story's general structure in a completely different setting with a different cast. It's not like this is going to be "Tony Montana Returns!." I think it's a lot more akin to something like, the Coens doing Hamlet (which I'd love to see).
