Idler Wheel is the one I've spent the least amount of time with. But I love all of her records. When the Pawn... is my personal favorite (and deserves to be mentioned along with he greatest albums of all time). This new one has a really good shot at passing Pawn, though. We'll see what time does.

I agree, which considering how much I adore When the Pawn is pretty surprising.

Enjoyed listening to the album this morning but it definitely needs a dedicated spin.

That said I was tossing on soundtracks the other day and of course included Lost Highway, as a Manson fan I have always enjoyed Apple of Sodom but totally forgot about the Fiona aspect:
Manson discussed the song's meaning in a 1998 Spin article, saying "that song's about obsession and things you can never have". He added that "in a distant way" it was inspired by his feelings toward Fiona Apple, a singer he deemed "sexy and fragile—definitely too fragile for me". Manson elaborated that he was a "huge fan" of Apple's music, and that "If I was ever to be put in a circumstance where I could have sex with her, I would decline because her vagina is probably too precious to be dirtied by my filthy cock."

Sits on my shelf and I went through a bit to get my copy back, may have to reread.

Fiona is my wife’s all time fave. We’re finally sitting down and listening now. She’s pumped. It’s fun to watch. Probably how she felt towards me when Gigaton came out.

Idler Wheel got me just right upon its release and really got me back into her catalog. I feel this one (8 years later?!) is going to do the same thing.

Shouldn’t we of all people be happy that 90s artists appeal to 30/40 somethings rather than kids these days?

Fiona’s album doesn’t sound like she’s passed her creative peak. Pearl Jam is past theirs but I still say it’s the best they’ve done since theirs.

Like she's irrationally obsessed with a musician who passed their creative peak when you were in high school?
Don’t you have a new Phish album to obsess about?
