Band Of Brothers and The Longest Day.
Closing in on the end of the war now, just in time for the 75th anniversary of peace in Europe.

Re: What movies are you watching?
Only watched the first 45 mins of Hustlers so far, since my girlfriend got a call from a friend in Canada. Babytime and a little Band Of Brothers instead for me.
Will probably finish it soon.

Broken City.
Looked good, and it has Whalberg and Crowe, with little moments of Zeta Jones, Wright and Chandler. Is it enough? No. But i was mildly amused by it.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I kinda hated the other one i saw, Good Times. But this one, i love it..it also gave me ideas for a feature film we are developing. And yes, Sandler and Julia Fox are incredible...also Bogosian.tragabigzanda wrote:I loved it, but I don't know that it has much replay value. I'll watch it again 1-2 times down the road to savor Sandler's performance, which is pretty amazing. But man was it a stressful experience.VinylGuy wrote:i loved it so much, i need to see it again.tragabigzanda wrote:Uncut Gems. Like having a two hour heart attack.
I'm also not entirely sold on the Safdie bros. This is the first film of theirs I've seen, and I'm all for shaky hand-held digital camera work to impart a certain realism, but the complete lack of lighting design made many of the nighttime scenes really tough to appreciate...They captured a certain manic energy and did a great job of it, but I also feel like it can be done in such a way that your eye can pick out some more detail.
It worked to some degree; I thought the assault in the car was better because you couldn't see things clearly. But other stuff, like anything with Sandler's family, really could have used some lighting.

The Cobbler.
I had fun...the premise is great, it gets weird when it turns into this thriller thing, but it was fuuuun.

Re: What movies are you watching?
Yeah I feel similarly. It's clearly a movie made by a good director but the stakes of what was happening were always unclear and it felt like it couldn't settle on a tone.tragabigzanda wrote:We watched this a few months ago. Love Soderbergh and wanted to love this but I didn’t.Mickey wrote:Haywire
