I think there was some 100k person gathering for someone who died in Bangladesh today. What's the difference between stuff like this and drunk driving?

Well for starters drunk driving helps a lot of people get to work on time.

The main reason for national shortages, according to the CEO of the Compressed Gas Association (CGA), Rich Gottwald, is a ramping down of ethanol production.

“Back in the summertime, the [Trump] administration exempted some gasoline manufacturers from using ethanol. Then we had Russia and Saudi Arabia flooding the market with cheap gasoline. All of that led to an oversupply of ethanol,” Gottwald said.

“As ethanol manufacturers were ramping down because there wasn’t a market for their product, along comes Covid-19, which meant people weren’t driving anywhere”, he added.

This led to plant closures, including among the 50 specialized plants that collect CO2 for the food and beverage market.

Gottwald’s association, along with a number of associations representing food and beverage industries, which together use 77% of food-grade CO2, issued a joint warning to the federal government about the shortage.

In an open letter to the vice-president, Mike Pence, the coalition warns: “Preliminary data show that production of CO2 has decreased by approximately 20%, and experts predict that CO2 production may be reduced by 50% by mid-April.”

It continues: “A shortage in CO2 would impact the US availability of fresh food, preserved food and beverages, including beer production.”

Are hardware stores not open in some states? Why can't that guy buy fertilizer?
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Costco, playa.

And yes they are open. Honestly it’s bars, restaurants, and haircuts that are closed. If you want anything else you can probably find it, and even then it seems like a decent percentage of restaurants are open for take-out or delivery.

Suburbs/cities are generally ok (assuming the supply chains hold). Areas with smaller employment bases, where there are just one or two choices for things, are struggling to choose between keeping their employees safe and keeping their businesses open.

There were reports from our local Lowe’s this weekend that you had to wait 30-45 minutes just to find somewhere to park, they were that busy.

The county I live in has requested from the governor that we are allowed to begin opening up earlier than the standard stay at home orders.

Its beginning to cause chaos amongst residences here in town.

Once we open this tourist playground back up there will be no holding back people from denver from coming up here and playing in our town.

Additionally, my friends who are property managers in the area all have second home owners as clients that are chomping at the bit to get out tot heir homes in the mountains. Where do these people generally come from? NYC, Mexico, Dallas, etc..

I am really opposed to this and definitely worried.

We're in the same boat. Warmer weather means people from NY, PA, OH want to come down to our beaches. They are pushing for beach reopenings and allowing short term rentals again. We've been luck so far but all local people here are bracing for the "second wave" when people can't stay away from the beaches.

Maybe if we’re lucky, all these noodle brains will infect each other and the herd will be culled. After all, that is acceptable collateral damage to them, right?

I hadn't considered this angle. You'd think these people would be happy to finally need their bunkers.
