What About the intro of Harper Lewis by Russian Circles?. Is it just me or is it really great drumming?Self wrote:Anything AC/DC.tragabigzanda wrote:Gosh, it’s probably have to be something by Soundgarden. Moby Dick by Led Zeppelin is great but I'm going to go with Harper Lewis by Russian circles.

La Villa Strangioto or Hot For Teacher might take my #3 spot for favorite rock drum songs. I'm not counting jazz fusion because if so I'd probably include something from Return to Forever.

I’ve gotten to wear I just don’t enjoy straight forward covers. The novelty of “woah this band covered that band” has worn. Bring something new to the song. Note-for-note covers bore the shit out of me.

What I find even more tiresome than note-for-note covers is the whole "let's take an upbeat song and make it all slow and melancholy"; it's worked a few times (the Johnny Cash version of "Hurt" is obviously great because it's charged with genuine emotion; the Donnie Darko version of "Mad World" was fine I guess) but it's become such a predictable go-to for artists trying to re-imagine old classics that it feels like the aural equivalent of an Instagram filter.

Its so obvious it just tiresome and lame.theplatypus wrote:What I find even more tiresome than note-for-note covers is the whole "let's take an upbeat song and make it all slow and melancholy"; it's worked a few times (the Johnny Cash version of "Hurt" is obviously great because it's charged with genuine emotion; the Donnie Darko version of "Mad World" was fine I guess) but it's become such a predictable go-to for artists trying to re-imagine old classics that it feels like the aural equivalent of an Instagram filter.

ELO and to a greater extent Jeff Lynne are severely underrated

boy that's put me on a trail. I watched that and then the tiny desk concert. anyone else see an angry tattooed Dave Matthews? lolghost wrote:I've been listening to IDLES "A Beautiful Thing: Live at Le Bataclan" a lot lately. Truly one of the best live albums I've ever heard. They have an energy, intensity and heart-on-sleeve earnestness that reminds me a lot of Vs.-era PJ. Introducing a song by bellowing "I. AM. A FEMINIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISSSST-AH!!!!" is a vintage Ed move.
I bought both albums because man that's impressive. thanks for the video.

I'm doing some freelance work for a member of one of the bands who had several entries in the pop-punk tournament... three guesses as to who it is
