OK, so on the subject of games:

I like atmosphere more than tasks. I used to play Flight Simulator on single flight mode, and just fly the thing around for ages looking at the scenery. I like great graphics that increase atmosphere, and one day I hope for a scuba diving game with good enough graphics that make you feel like you're exploring the sea. I also like artistic indie games high on intelligent composition and all that wanky stuff.

I also like old platform games and 'fun' games. If they made the new equivalent of the Amiga 500, Super Nintendo or Sega Mastersystem, I'd be on it like a car bonnet.

I do not like RPGs. I do not like war games or ultra-violent ones, not because of any moral stance but because I find them boring. I do not like games which take a year to complete and an entire universe of mythology to learn. I miss just having a couple of hours gaming on a Saturday and then going about my day.

The games I like(d) are in short supply these days, so I don't play games anymore.

i used to be all about the FPS's back in the PS2 and early PS3 days but recently they just don't do it for me anymore (with the exception of a few notable titles that stand out from the crowd like Bioshock, etc). i think COD4:MW2 was the final nail in that coffin. i'm still going to try the new Killzone when it launches with the PS4 because god damn did i ever love that series - it was more balanced than COD and rewarded actual objective-based teamplay instead of just kill counts, plus the online community was generally more mature - but i can't see myself having much interest in many other shooters.

Fallout and Skyrim turned me onto RPG's bigtime in the past few years. i'm totally cool with a game that takes me 6 months to play. still not interested in MMORPG's though. my video game time is sporadic these days. usually early weekend mornings and whenever i get a free hour here or there, which isn't very conducive to online gaming.

besides that i'm mostly into action-adventure and open world games these days.

Only having a PS3 since the spring, I've definitely put the most hours into Fallout 3 and MLB the Show. What I think I like most about both of these games--which seem to have very little in common on the surface--is how slowly they develop. Fallout 3 has plenty of FPS elements, for sure, but there's also a lot of walking through the wasteland, taking in the scenery, looking for those small things you could easily miss that can really help boost your character and your gaming experience. With a baseball game, I love watching players' stats fluctuate over the course of the season, micro-managing rosters, and the mini-drama of every at-bat. Bioshock was certainly fun and all, but I've played it through once and really don't see myself coming back to it for quite a while. So I guess re-playability and glacial-ish pacing is what I like most about games.

Oh, and I've never played a multi-player game of anything. It's just not my thing.

I had so much fun with Fallout 3. I loved doing a "normal" playthrough at first doing all kinds of quest, being mostly friendly with the NPCs, trying to build a well balanced character etc. and then playing it again just doing whatever I felt like. No one was safe from my havoc: Mighty fist-fighting skills and explosives and stealing everything.

I need to play New Vegas but my Steam version only has really terrible german voice acting. Maybe I'll just pirate it.

I'm with you here. MW2 was the last shooter I really spent any time with. I tried MW3, but sold it after 2 days. I'll probably check out Killzone for PS4 when it comes out as well. The graphics look amazing.

oh shit it was MW3 that i sold after a week. i guess that proves how forgettable most of these games really are. so yeah i spent a fair bit of time with MW2 before getting bored of it.

I used to enjoy Black and White for a while. Do they still make those?

You need to get on that. Rayman Legends actually has several of the Rayman Origins levels in it.

I bothered to scroll back to the release date, and all that is has done is reinforce how much you console folks dominate this thread. This is to your detriment. No love for Rome Total War II? I'm pretty terrible at it, but it seems like they took much of the best of the first game and added on some additional features. My computer doesn't run it particularly well, so it could be prettier. Rome I, while delightful was a bit too easy, especially in the diplomacy and economy fields. They have tried to fix that by making diplomacy more difficult (they pretty much fixed it with the Rome I expansion). The economy this time around is all about tradeoffs. you can make more money, but at the expense of food supply or public happiness. Similarly, you can work up the tech tree but that will definitely cost you something. The AI still seems to be a bit lacking, but still, better. I haven't played too long, but the varied factions seem to provide some replay value.

meh, consoles are plug and play and easy to use. running a gaming PC means a much larger initial price tag plus recurring upgrades and the risk of hardware incompatibilities. i've done both and in general i prefer console gaming for those reasons but also because i get to sit on a comfy couch in front of a large screen instead of at a desk.
