Very bad feelings here in Houston, at least in my little circle of friends and family.
My friends who own or manage small restaurants are expressing fear of reopening with regard to their staff safety and the fact that 25% capacity is not financially worth it.
Meanwhile, jackass conservative business owners like Matt Brice have
preemptively opened because he doesn't like the rules and a bunch of fucking karens are flocking to his restaurant because they are "ready to have fun with their girlfriends." Zero repurcussions on a local, state or federal level. In fact, some politicians even ate there on opening night.
Judge Lina Hidalgo is doing an excellent job managing the virus. We just closed a massive pop-up med facility that ended up not being needed, and of course the Right is lambasting her for the "wasted" $$. She issued a mandatory mask order last Friday, which other counties have already done with minimal blowback. But she is a young, hispanic, strong-willed up and coming democrat in a state that may or may not be turning purple. Citizens and the establishment TX pols are disrespecting her, left and right. In fact, yesterday, the governor issued an executive order pointed directly at Harris Co. prohibiting municipalities from issuing fines for any order having to do with masks.
My family has been staying at home. We see family through windows. My seven month old son can't be held by his grandparents or play with his baby cousins. My wife's dad has been stuck overseas since well before this all hit and has never met his grandson. The sooner people put on a god damned mask and wait this shit out, the sooner we can get back to normal.
To those of you who just have to get non essential businesses open like, yesterday...go fuck yourself. It's not time yet.
