I can't keep up with tv anymore and that's going to be even more the case as the streaming services continue to increase in number.
I've also noticed when I do watch it's more likely to be something self contained than a whole series.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I am loving Better Things, which I find really refreshing, even if the Louie influence is heavy; and I do feel like I'm missing out in not watching Ozark, and I'd like to try Mrs. America (but is it just the anti-Mad Men?). Still enjoying the most recent seasons of Insecure and High Maintenance, but these are well-established shows by now...

There's just not a lot of new stuff, meaning in their 1st or 2nd seasons, that is either making its way into my media consciousness; or if it does, it looks derivative of something that's already been successful.

You need to watch Ozark. We just started it last week and are into season two right now. Bateman is a goddamn genius. If he directed all of that King series on HBO, I can't fucking wait to watch it.

It's an anthology series, so Season 1 is it's own self-contained thing.

Yea, Ozark is amazing, and just gets better & better. I've only got 3 eps left in season 3. And The Outsider on HBO is really good too. I think Bateman only directed the first two episodes though.

Devs is nothing like The Americans or Mr. Robot. I haven't actually seen Halt but based on the synopses I've read, I can't imagine it's anything like that show either.

Bateman is a national treasure. Ozark, while not very original in its premise, moves about the fray due to performances by Bateman and the casting. It finds its own legs and if i remember correctly in season 1 or two they made a brief mention of walter white (??) as a tongue in cheek play at the show.

I think part of it has to do with the elevation you get from not just being great, but first. The Sopranos is brilliant, but I have little doubt that it's going to be remembered years and decades from now in the way other brilliant shows are not because The Sopranos has been codified as being the beginning of the "golden age." It's like how a songwriter from the 90s or '00s, as brilliant as they may be, may have difficulty permeating the consciousness like Dylan.

Interesting. Time will tell but I have my doubts about (your take here re:) The Sopranos. It's only gone up (so far) in pop culture's estimation. I see it being The Godfather of television. People will forever universally acknowledge that it's the best for generations, even if people haven't seen it. I thought that would be The Wire. But the more criticism I read the more that shifts. But you could be right.
