Dude, all three of these statements are patently false, and at least parts of them feel like they should be written in all caps.PHATJ wrote:If someone can’t appreciate or see that Gigaton is a modern PJ masterpiece, and that Lightning Bolt was an abject failure (with arguably a couple minor highlights, depending on your view of a couple songs), then they probably have just don’t like PJ that much anymore.
Your love of Gigaton would be contagious if it wasn't packaged with this militant insistence that anyone who even slightly deviates from your idolatrus drooling over it is objectively incorrect, and baseless projections about what that disagreement means about other tangentially related elements of their tastes. I hope there's some element of shtick here that I'm just missing...

Dude, Kevin, no one can “objectively” claim any art is better than any other. I, and everyone else gets that.Kevin Davis wrote:PHATJ wrote:Gigaton is objectively (A LOT) better than Lightning Bolt or Backspacer.PHATJ wrote:Being a fan of those albums basically means you hate creative Pearl Jam and what actually made them great.

Lol at the bolded section. “Militant insistence” “
I like Gigaton and I think it’s really good. Is it ok if I say it that way? Or is that too militant and idolatrous?
What “baseless projections” exactly? Have you heard of hyperbole? Are you familiar with it’s usage?
Of course there’s some shtick in there. The basic elements of what I’m saying is what I mean. The language I use to convey those thoughts and ideas is often tongue-in-cheek, or meant to be a little silly. You are absolutely taking it way more seriously than I was.

J, saying that someone who doesn't like one thing therefore doesn't like an entire category of things is a baseless projection. People do this all the time. If you don't like Sgt. Pepper, you don't like the Beatles, who have 12 other albums. If you don't like Kind of Blue, you don't like the entire genre of jazz, which comprises literally tens of thousands of records. That's what I mean by baseless projection. No one thing is that representative of all other things.
Good catch on the typo.

Maybe that's the way they seem to you, but to me your posts just read as being boorish and obnoxious.PHATJ wrote:Of course there’s some shtick in there. It feels like a continuation of your posts elsewhere on the board, where the only intent is to post something so deliberately offensive and/or stupid that you'll almost inevitably receive a response from other RM users in return, which you can then pivot to say you were only trying to get a rise out of them. As you said, you're not taking it seriously, and it amuses you that others do.
Isn't that incredibly tiresome? For you, I mean - I already know it is for others.

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
This Album has songs that are fun to play on guitar again. So thats something
Whoever Said is fun
Wolfmoon is Fun
DOTC is ridiculous (one day ill get those guitar stabs right)
Quick Escape is a beast to play
Alright - Whatever
7oclock - is actually a fucking bore to play and it makes me worried that without all the incredible production it might be a drag live
Never Destination is the most rock n roll theyve ever been. Simple, but tons of space and a rip roaring good time. tons of room for expression
Take the Long way - Fuck you matt cameron. you good.
Buckle Up - quirky and fun!
Comes then goes - nice little acoustic ditty. Very cat stevens
Retrograde - Meh
But i am a "rock n roll lets play shred" kind of guy.

I've heard it at least four or five times, but probably not since the first week of its release (or thereabouts).Thurman Murman wrote:As in you've listened thru once or twice and its just not for you or haven't even given it a chance yet?Birds in Hell wrote:Haven't been able to muster any enthusiasm to listen to this album.
Maybe things will swing back around at some point, but I wonder if my interest in Pearl Jam is now primarily historical.
I've dipped back into a few tracks here and there, but not lately and I haven't felt like returning.

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
The one thing about the record that I've noticed (and it's not really a critique) is that it's an hour long record that feels like an hour-long record. Some of my favorite records are longer that records that feel long and don't fly by (R.E.M.'s New Adventures in Hi-Fi is one of my favorite records ever, but you feel that it's a long album). It's made it a bit harder for me to just jump into Gigaton, though I'm enjoying it when I do.

It’s not at all a continuation. My PJ opinions have nothing to do with my politics.Birds in Hell wrote:Maybe that's the way they seem to you, but to me your posts just read as being boorish and obnoxious.PHATJ wrote:Of course there’s some shtick in there.
