Gigaton is better than No Code on just about every level. I say just about because there may be a level I just didn’t think about, but probably not

I'm still amazed they were able to pull off No Code after Vitalogy. A perfect album.

It's an Ed record and I trust 1996 Ed like my parents trust Jesus.

gigaton is the only record i would compare to no code. not really in terms of enjoyment as much as just being all over the place.

i'm also glad people remember how incredible hearing 'in my tree' was in 1996. i still love it now, but when it first came out, holy shit....

17 y/o me was totally down with Wishlist, and then 32 y/o me wasn't sure if I was doing something wrong liking Sirens.

Time is weird.

Also, wow, Lightning Bolt was a long fucking time ago.
Also, I've managed not to talk about No Code at all.

I wish Pearl Jam would have made an album full of songs like Around The Bend. It's a sound they explore not often enough. Imagine an album full of Around The Bends, Parachutes, Buckle Ups and Strangest Tribes.

That would have been very interesting. Doubt it will ever happen.

That's the problem when you take 7 years to make an album. It needs to be a statement representing every aspect of Pearl Jam. There needs to be a punk song, an anthem, a midtempo song, a ballad, a single weird song... They can't wait 7 years and then have an album full of Buckle Ups. (I don't even think they or more than 1% of the Pearl Jam fan community would even want such a thing, that's only me and some other people on theskyiscrape)

Releasing albums more often would enable them to be more creative and not make their albums so much by the numbers I think. There wouldn't be so many expectations then.

Really interesting points. Are they bound by the past?

I'm hoping Stone's upcoming Painted Shield album with Mason Jennings scratches this itch. Apparently Stone wrote all the music.

I would love a relaxed album full of those songs, but you're right - it couldn't hold a seven year gap.
