He's not wrongPHATJ wrote:Ok, Kevin.Kevin Davis wrote:J, saying that someone who doesn't like one thing therefore doesn't like an entire category of things is a baseless projection. People do this all the time. If you don't like Sgt. Pepper, you don't like the Beatles, who have 12 other albums. If you don't like Kind of Blue, you don't like the entire genre of jazz, which comprises literally tens of thousands of records. That's what I mean by baseless projection. No one thing is that representative of all other things.
Good catch on the typo.

SNC, I need you to keep giving Gigaton a try. You are a super fan from WAY back, at least in my online world. I think there is more in this album for you. I have you tried listening.......on WEED?!

I only started paying much attention to PHATJ's posts once Gigaton hit. Since then I've seen nothing I'd call particularly abrasive or belligerent.

there should be way more 5 stars for this thing. its seems like both pro and anti backspacer people love this thing. again, best since yield, which is my 1-2 favorite album.

In time I think more people could move it to 5 stars. I think it can be hard to compare how much you like something that's so new, to something you've loved for years.warehouse wrote:there should be way more 5 stars for this thing. its seems like both pro and anti backspacer people love this thing. again, best since yield, which is my 1-2 favorite album.

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
i'm still having a hard time ranking this with the rest of the catalogue, for the reasons stated above. how am i supposed to rank a brand new album over an album that shaped my life since i was like 10? but the quality of songs on this thing doesnt seem to be in question. part of it is the diversity, they go all over the place with this one.VinylGuy wrote:Agree.Leatherhead wrote:In time I think more people could move it to 5 stars. Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
Do people generally do this with all their entertainment or is this just a PJ centric ideal?Leatherhead wrote:In time I think more people could move it to 5 stars. When the most recent The National album came out last year I had no qualms calling it my favorite new music in many years and probably my favorite album by the band. That opinion didn’t get scoffed at. I don’t remember people saying “it’s great, but I have to wait for a few years before I can say it’s favorite”.
When you see a new movie you love, or TV series that is everything you want it to be, or read a new book that you instantly connect with, or eat a meal that blows your mind, do you wait for months or years before you call it your favorite? Or do you allow the awesome experience you are having with it to actually be your favorite thing for that time, and the foreseeable future, and maybe forever, if that’s what happens?
