one of my favs from the band. Such a powerful song. And i love when they went all Sonic Youth on this one live.stip wrote:parting ways is such a scenic and tactile song, in really good ways.

when binaural nails its atmosphere it really nails it

Nothing as It Seems, Insignificance, Grievance, Rival, and Parting Ways are very very good. The rest of the album I could largely take or leave. Breakerfall and Light Years almost get to stay

Interesting you see it this way. I feel its one of the most consistent from them. I would say Vs, No Code, Yield, Binaural and Gigaton are...But both Binaural and Gigaton also had a particular sound all through the album.stip wrote:when binaural nails its atmosphere it really nails it

There have been times when this is my favorite PJ record. The atmosphere and sound is vital, but I think it just comes down to the fact that this has a whole bunch of PJ's best tunes. I tend to put Yield and Vitalogy above this one, but even with those records, I'm not sure there's a sequence as emotionally powerful as this record's back half.

Man, VG, we have some really similar thoughts on Binaural and Gigaton.VinylGuy wrote:Interesting you see it this way. I feel its one of the most consistent from them. They got it right in puzzles and games. the verses work okay, and I like the chorus music (and the bridge is great). I just think the chorus vocal melody underserves the sentiment. And the affectations and choices I dont like in some of Eddie’s Yield performances are front and center here.
what a slow start this album has
The lyrics, guitar melody and ed's vocal melodies in the verses are enough to consider this one a gem, unless people want to preserve their idea that vitalogy is their best album!

Heart on the sleeve is alright when it's about a deceased loved one. At least it's not heart on the sleeve in a hideous sounding way like The End.

If "particular sound" is the criteria then Vitalogy is in the running. It always felt like the most organic, definitive album to me.

Agreed about Matt. This feels to me like his most complete contribution in a really long time, and possibly his most integrated performance in the band’s tenure.PHATJ wrote:100%Anders wrote:His best PJ album.VinylGuy wrote:Matt is indeed awesome on this album. Super heavy.

He shines throughout Gigaton. Definitely his best since Binaural. And I agree that it might be the best.RockPusher wrote:Agreed about Matt.
