Yellow Moon with a Gigaton level of production would be amazing.

Wow, look at the poll for this song. The board loved it then. Curious what people think now.

it's OK, I was grateful for a song like this when it first came out; it's pretty
but we had "Lowlight", and now we have "Buckle Up", so it's a tad redundant

i can usually just ignore lyrics and pay attention to music/vocals, but the second verse is maybe the worst thing eddie vedder ever wrote. they bridge is fine, but i have really have no desire to hear this song.

round and round we go
where we stop no one knows
so tonight the moon I go
Perfectly good lyrics that tie in well with a song about contemplating suicide in the face of a seemingly meaningless or insignificant existence
the post, however, is a great example of the hyperbolic illiteracy that categorizes most conversations about lightning bolt

those lyrics sound like they were written by a child. sure, if you want to say they are good in the context of the song, go for it, but they are terrible.stip wrote:round and round we go

Re: Song of the Moment: Yellow Moon
when you say "those lyrics sound like they were written by a child", you should know that it's literally a children's nursery rhyme, so leaving aside how you may feel about using children's traditional merry-go-round mantras in a song in general, these lyrics are fine and aren't Ed being juvenile
I just wish the production and instrumentation of the song was more nuanced and creative, so that we could hear a little of that quaint music-box Victoriana aesthetic in more than just the lyrics
I don't mind seeing the whole song as a nursery rhyme

Re: Song of the Moment: Yellow Moon
i never looked at it as a nursery rhyme the way 'around the bend' is, but thats an interesting thought. i think i heard the same line in a pink floyd song recently and had the same thought: "that was the line?"Ms Harmless wrote:when you say "this looks like it's written by a child", you should know that it's literally a children's nursery rhyme, so leaving aside how you may feel about using children's traditional merry-go-round mantras in a song in general, these lyrics are fine and aren't Ed being juvenile

i think like most songs, this would improve with the new producer. maybe ill try to find a good live version of it.

Re: Song of the Moment: Yellow Moon
Harmless just said it, but it is a child's nursery rhyme, and it evokes the feeling of a carousel. Constant movement with no destination that is enchanting as a child but feels pointless as an adult. Likewise, the image/lyric of 'to the moon I go' as a way to process/understand what happens when you die/what comes next is there to highlight how overmatched and overwhelmed the singer feels. He is reduced to a childlike level of understanding against the existential enormity of the moment.
