Once again, I'm not sure judging album sales during an worldwide pandemic is fair.

The weirdest thing for me with this album is, it is one of my most loved in recent history and one of my least listened to. With the pandemic, I have arguable way more time to listen to it but the least amount of opportunities. Trying to work at home with kids and a wife doing the same leaves little time for it. But when I put it on. It is start to finish and I'm sad that it seems to end sooner than I want. Which says a lot for an longer than usual album by them.

Album sales don't mean a whole lot in this house. DOTC was a smash hit amongst the wife and kids set and they are tolerating numerous other songs.

All in all a hit album ;)

I'm averaging probably one listen per day since it came out. It's in my running playlist and hasn't left the CD changer near my desk. Despite that it still sounds fresh. I get that excited, anticipatory feeling every time one song ends and the next begins. I'm still in shock that they pulled this off.

I'm looking forward blasting this in the car on my commute, when commutes become a thing again.

Sorry, I don't keep up on this stuff -- how does streaming factor into the numbers people give when they talk about "album sales?" If the answer is not at all, I don't think those numbers really indicate anything about the public's or even the fanbase's engagement with the album.

«Pearl Jam’s first studio album in seven years arrived this Friday, and projections are available for its opening week performance.

According to Hits Daily Double, the album should sell 45-55K US copies during the March 27-April 2 tracking period. With units from track sales and streams included, it may generate 50-60K in total first-week consumption.»

« Pearl Jam have scored a US Top 5 debut with their new album, "Gigaton." The record has also entered the Billboard Rock Albums Chart this week at No. 1.

Produced by Josh Evans and the group, Billboard reports the Seattle outfit's first studio record in seven years enters the Billboard 200 at No. 5 with opening week sales of 63,000 equivalent album units, of which 57,000 are in album sales, while 6,000 are in streaming equivalent album (SEA) units and less than 1,000 are in track equivalent albums (TEA) units.

According to the music industry outlet, "Gigaton" performed particularly well on vinyl, selling 14,000 copies, the second-largest week on vinyl for a 2020 release.»

So, it factors in, but as these things go, it's makes apples-to-apples comparisons to previous records even trickier.

Tried finding something like this for Gigaton, the free streaming, but not easy: «It’s fair to say that The Weeknd’s new album ‘After Hours’ is expected to have a big debut this weekend. The streaming services are certainly throwing their weight behind it. Apple announced yesterday that the album has broken its record for Apple Music pre-adds (people pre-saving it to their libraries). MBW reported that by yesterday, 975,000 Apple Music users had pre-added ‘After Hours’. Meanwhile, Spotify teamed up with The Weeknd and label XO/Republic to host a “listening party and Q&A” overnight, complete with The Weeknd dropping in to chat to fans about the album.»

Saw a site that aggregates streaming numbers, and Gigaton was 495th on the current album list on iTunes in the US.

Spotify sent e mails and put some huge banners and even print for the weeknd´s album. They really pushed it.
