Bullshit. Some of their best songs are on this album. It needed filler because the band disintegrated while making it. But No Surprize, Chaquita, Three Mile Smile, Coney Island Whitefish Boy and Cheesecake are sleazy as ever and have awesome riffage galore. Several band members have singled this one out as a personal favorite. Listen again.

You don't like "Hangman Jury"? That's a great track that doesn't fit in the with the rest of the garbage on there. I remember them doing a great version of it on their "Unplugged" appearance.
It's possible I'm burnt out having done 9 albums in 4 days. I've added NitRuts to my listen again pile with Wings, Toys and Rocks.
From memory there's a Daddy reference in one of those songs that grates. Some Springsteen songs have Daddy/Lil Girl issues too. The riffs were okay though. I'll report back when I've heard them all again.

That's Cheesecake and that one's pretty sleazy. The rest of the songs I mentioned are the shit.

I'm really enjoying both Draw The Line and Night In The Ruts (two of their supposed "weaker" albums). "Chaquita" is like one of the best songs I've heard by them.

It and the Run-DMC version of Walk This Way were my intro to the band so I'm curious if I feel some nostalgia for Permanent Vacation and Pump, or if they're both meh. "Aerosmith 2.0" is a good term for that stuff. Did 2.0 start with Walk This Way/Run-DMC, Done With Mirrors, or Permanent Vacation?

I would say PM, I know Perry and Whitford returned for DwM but I don't believe there was a strong single off it and with PM getting three (popular) music videos I believe.
I'd say Aerosmith 2.0 started in 84 when the original line up was reinstated. Mirrors was subpar then the Run DMC collab propelled them into consciousness again. PM had to be successful to capitalize on that Walk This Way headway. And to make sure of that they hired outside writers and never looked back. Mirrors was the last album without outside writers. It was successful as hell but I'd say it went to far by the time of Nine Lives.
PUMP. This is hard to look at objectively as I've loved this album for 30+ years. There are 6-7 great tracks on this album. Every part of it was successful and I enjoy the hell out of it. All singles were great and the MTV VMAs with Elevator was immense. This album and New Jersey were both produced by Bruce Fairbairn and both mean a lot as my 13-15 yo self played the shit outta these albums.
Keepers: Young Lust, FINE, Elevator, Janie, Other Side, What It Takes.
Get A Grip. Post grunge explosion. Man this album is gimmicky and has heaps of filler. 1993, let's fill the entire 74 mins with music. Thanks to Alicia Silverstone this album got a heap of attention that it probably wouldn't have. I certainly still paid attention to this album's release but it was the last time. Too many gimmicks with the opening collage and Get A Grip with rapping. Urrgghh.
Keepers: Livin On The Edge, Flesh, Crying, Amazing.
I remember a great SNL sketch where they did a "Best Of Aerosmith" commercial or something where they took all of those shitty "Alicia Silverstone" ballads and morphed them together into like 30 different songs that all sounded the same but contained elements of each other. It was pretty funny.

live bootleg was my introduction to them and i was maybe under 10 or so when i first heard it (mama kin sticks out)
night in the ruts is a great album as WCT mentioned. chiquita (due to the strong brass section) and no surprize stick out for me due to the strong brass section
so many songs of theirs i just like, no particular reason but draw the line, kings and queens, walking in the sand, sick as a dog, adams apple, uncle salty, you see me crying, chip away the stone, lightning strikes, same old song and dance, lord of the flies, big ten inch record, toys in the attic, angel, permanent vacation, cheese cake, deuces are wild, F.I.N.E, no more no more as well as their major hits
i sorta quit with them after all the power ballads (dont wanna miss a thing) but if they head this way on tour again i will check em out. great band live

I am impressed with the Aerosmith run...they fell so hard so fast that I could never commit to that run. I really need a redemption arc when I do those.
