The problem is though...shit in ...shit out.

I dont really know how to lay down a basic guitar track in a way that could be utilized for a full band recording. Volume levels etc... All i know is to not lay it down too loud.

You usually can't go wrong with a $100 Shure SM57.

Mic it, Strat. SM57 is all I've ever used. Get an affordable interface and a DAW. There are a ton of affordable/free options that are more than what you need. Arm your track, hit the strings hard, and adjust the input volume so it doesn't go red; tickling the orange is ok. You'll be surprised what a jackasss in a bedroom can create. I know I am.

I have an m audio podcast usb interface and I use garage band. I’ve had fine luck but guessing I’m missing out. I have only mic an acoustic guitar through but sure it’s just a shitty vocal mic

Otherwise just gone amp to m Audio to computer.

Should I upgrade my equipment and software ?

Not sure about the m audio thing. Does it have XLR inputs? If it does, all you'd need is a decent mic to record the amp. Whatever software you're using is fine, like Trag said.

Here's the thing with recording. You don't know shit until you start doing it. Nobody gets hurt in the process, you just hit undo and try again until you get something that sounds right. Anyway, step back from thinking about full band recordings and just take it one step at a time, and above all have fun!

I did it guys. The marshall is on its way.

I also needed to purchase a separate reverb pedal, went with the Keely Omni reverb, so as to not miss the fender twin reverb too much while playing through my new baby.

Oh, you can blend them just like a Plexi. Each has a loudness knob, at least the head I was looking at did. This should too. Same thing with a speaker, I think.

had to upgrade my pedal board. Been a long time since ive changed my set up. So, for when im not using my fender twin:

Nice. I have the regular OCD and it's great pedal. When I use the VTM I have it set for just a tad of breakup with the volume down on the guitar a hair. I use the OCD to gently nudge it over the edge. With the classic, I use it on the clean channel to get into the rock tone area. It'll also approach full bore shred, but that's not really my thing.
