i prefer rival to red mosquito, actually - though both are way ahead of 1/2 full in my hierarchy

Yeah, agreed; Rival is a classic, though I like both 1/2 Full and Red Mosquito.

when I first heard this I felt that it was a second-rate Red Mosquito, but I think it's great now

This seems like an odd comparison. I've never heard red mosquito, maybe a little tremor christ.
