No one knows anything for sure, but no one seems to address his point. Doesn't it seem odd that they'd be researching a naturally occurring virus from the general area, but it only started infecting people when a mishap at the lab occurred?

I don’t know that there is evidence of it naturally occurring in the Wuhan area. The horseshoe bats generally studied at the lab and the suspected source of a wide variety of Coronaviruses were from caves 1800 km away.

You are conflating two separate things: (1) evidence the Wuhan lab was studying and manipulating bat derived Coronaviruses and (2) COVID-19 escaped from a lab.

McP, no one in this thread is claiming the virus was manufactured or altered by humans. You don’t need to debate a point no one is trying to make.

Malayan pangolins (Manis javanica) have been suggested as potential intermediate hosts, and SARS-like viruses have been identified in pangolins seized in anti-smuggling operations in southern China, but they only shared about 85–92% homology with SARS-CoV-2. No other possible intermediate wildlife host has been proposed at this time.

Now absence of evidence is not evidence of absence, but that should at least open the door to the possibility of direct bat to human transmission, such as is detailed here based on research at the... well... I bet you’ve already guessed:
