I also love Speed of Sound
I like Sleeping by Myself, but it's much better in Uke Songs form imo
anyway, not sure what point I'm making in this post lol

Re: Gigaton: Official album thread
First paragraph of your response: I hear that, was just curious. I heard a rumor you like Gigaton.PHATJ wrote:I have never thought about it like that. I’m just usually interested in what people are saying on a particular day. Generally I’m much happier when people really love Pearl Jam, because I do too. And especially Gigaton recently. But I also like the general banter, no matter which direction it goes.Bammer wrote:Josh, let me be clear: For the record, I really do enjoy Gigaton. Several tracks I’m not wild about but overall, very enjoyable.
So anyway with that being said: Are you happier posting in this thread when someone loves the album and you post to agree with them, or the other way around and you post to disagree with them? Which do you look forward to more when you click open this particular thread?
I have very few people I actually and actively dislike on RM. I know most of you just think of me as the Trump idiot that some like to provoke and others just like to mock. But ultimately, I don’t really care about that. I don’t actually know any of you anyway. And if I had my choice, I’d mostly just like to rank things and bullshit about my favorite songs and debate which ones suck.
Second paragraph of your response: Bro, chill.

Re: Gigaton: Official album thread
I agree completely and would add 1) that Ed definitely challenges himself in the chorus, especially at the high part at the end, and 2) the vocal harmonies on this one are also, for me at least, very reminiscent of their Ten sound, which works well with the NIN piano and ending jam.Kevin Davis wrote:I do like the chorus -- I can't think of another Pearl Jam chorus that consists equally of a chorale effect from the rest of the band and lyrics from Ed. I've said it before but it makes me think of Def Leppard, which I understand sounds like an insult to some but I mean it as a compliment. That kind of vocal interplay between the lead singer and the other singers in the band is one of their musical strengths.Mike wrote:I just think Quick Escape has dull vocals and vocals being the most important thing in Pearl Jams music for me it makes the whole song fall flat. The chorus is completely unmemorable. The song sounds pretty cool and I have no problem with what the band is doing instrumentally. I can completely understand where the love for this song is coming from. Question for people who love the song: Do you like the chorus? If so, what do you like about it?
It surprises me to read this song singled out as being dull vocally; I think it has some of Eddie's most compelling phrasing on the whole album.

Re: Gigaton: Official album thread
Finally got my first listen on vinyl. The first side feels really nicely energized. The second side is really helped by this medium in my opinion - Alright has even more presence and Never Destination ramps up the funsplosion. The third side sounds great but it always sounded great to me- the one notable thing is that Comes Then Goes really sounds to me like an all-timer on vinyl. "Ed's right hand" can be explosive, even in such an acoustic comfort song, and the vinyl brings that out bigtime.
My love for this album grows and grows.

Re: Gigaton: Official album thread
I've mostly just been listening to side B of this album - so for me Gigaton is just a 4 song EP of Alright, Seven O'clock, Never Destination and Take The Long Way - and it's pretty great.

I've just realized that what some are calling "NIN-styled piano" on QE is what I've been hearing as "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot-era Wilco."
Glad to come aboard

After 3 more headphone walks, I expect to see Who Ever Said jump up a few spots.durdencommatyler wrote:Went for a headphone walk with the record, finally!

I have listened to every album in the last 3 days. Gig may be last place. Time will tell. Interesting how Backspacer has dropped to 4 in a matter of months from a 2 or 3 spot. While enjoy Gigaton it and Lighting Bolt feel like imposters. It is funny that every song on Gigaton has a song in the greater PJ universe or several that put me in the same headspace. That is except for SBWM it stands on its own .

Well I said headspace thats not the same, but so that is now understood Faithful, Infallible and in the way it is a left turn from what came before Who You Are and The Fixer.RockPusher wrote:What does Dance remind you of?Tj wrote:I have listened to every album in the last 3 days. Re: Gigaton: Official album thread
I've been listening to an era per day this week. Ten-Vitalogy on Monday, No Code-Lo2L on Tuesday, Binaural-Riot Act (plus Bayleaf & ITW) today. I throw Gigaton on at the end of each day. I'm surprised how seamlessly it flows with each era. And still blown away by how fresh it sounds, even after probably 50+ listens. Every time DOTC comes on I stop what I'm doing and get caught up in the song.
Kinda dreading the next era. Might just skip it and listen to the Gorge boxset instead.
