Devs is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Absolutely a must watch. Really brings in to focus how lame most of the other dreck I’ve watched in the last couple years is. Except for Watchmen.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

The season four finale of The Sopranos really helped me to understand just how truly terrible A Marriage Story was

Please explain
It's about the early stages of a divorce and there are a couple all-out fights between Tony and Carmela. James Gandolfini and Edie Falco are amazing and fascinating and devastating and embarrassing and sad and strange and everything else in a way that the marriage story movie can only hope to be a shadow of. The movie actually hits quite a few of the same notes as the episode. It comes close enough and the TV show is so superior that the movie just seems redundant. It doesn't say anything that this episode didn't already say and do a hundred times better.

Two thoughts:

1. I did not know that if one already has HBO Now, they can "upgrade" to HBO Max for free. That's awesome.

2. ANNA KENDRICK HAS A NEW SERIES PREMIERING ON HBO MAX AND I COULD NOT BE MORE EXCITED

Rosalie Aprile, on The Sopranos, is an unimpeachably good friend to Carmela

For Wease:

Ted Danson has said he is nothing like Sam Malone and it took a season and a half for him to figure out how to play him. He was not an athlete or even sports minded, didn't hang out in bars, and was not a ladies' man. He got the role largely on his chemistry with Shelley Long, beating out William Devane and Fred Dwyer who played the character more like the creators had in mind. Fred Dwyer had a recurring role in early episodes as an ex-teammate of Sam's turned sportscaster. Dwyer was also a former NFL player and, at James Burrows' suggestion, was an inspiration for Danson's swagger and confidence he brought to the character.
Danson also went to bartending school after winning the role but mixing drinks on turned out to be too loud on camera so mostly you'll see characters behind the bar pouring draft, washing shot glasses, and cutting fruit.

My oldest just started watching it this week. She wants to quit because the first season starts off pretty slow but I'm making her stick with it. Mrs Wease and I are going back thru Frasier right now, so she keeps wanting him to show up on Cheers.

I don't enjoy talk shows nearly as much as when they were in studio. John Oliver's show is about the same since it was always pretty much him talking straight to the camera.
