That is except for SBWM it stands on its own .
What does Dance remind you of?
Gigaton songs, with their obvious and superior Pearl Jam back catalog doppelgängers:
1. Who Ever Said - Brain of J
2. SBWM - Leatherman
3. Dance - Space Lord (Mother Mother)
4. Quick Escape - Ghost
5. Alright - Undone
6. Seven O’Clock - Rock Around Barack / It’s OK tag
7. Never Destination - MFC but they won’t stop playing it
8. Take the Long Way - Spoonman (Kazaa version)
9. Buckle Up - Ghost again
10. Comes Then Goes - Angel
11. Retrograde - Betterman (live)
12. River Cross - Wasted Reprise

I actually made that comparison regarding the outro to my friend early on, so yeah, that checks out.

I understand the source of such a comparison, but I mostly disagree

well, they're both driven by a drum groove with a simple bass line in the foreground and there's Ed chanting stuff in WMA and he's also chanting in the outro of DOTC. i guess i can see how one COULD compare them. but other than these surface comparisons i think they're very different songs. WMA is looser and has way less song structure than DOTC. DOTC is focused and tight and dance-y.

Yes the structure is the main difference. WMA sounds like it was a jam.

Although WMA was also built on a repeating drum loop, was it not?

I was just listening to this through headphones on Spotify and messed around with the built-in EQ.

Anyway, I noticed there's a "surround sound" option in there. I was messing with that a bit and managed to hear a lot of things I'd never heard before. I'm wondering if having it mixed for Dolby ATMOS is contributing to this? Has anyone else tried this?

Pardon my being tedious, but I finally decided to try ranking this whole album to see how it stacks up against my other favorites. No two days of ranking are the same, but when I did all the albums a few months back it looked like—if it was great—that Gigaton could slot in as my 6th favorite album.

I decided to do two Gigaton rankings, one more conservative and one more aggressive, and here are the results of this exercise in excess.

For the record, if someone asks me what my favorite album is, the answer is No Code. So this exercise is not that, but still.

Conservative (3.42 avg)
WES – 4
SBWM – 3.5
DOTC – 4.5
QE – 4
Alright – 3.5
0700 – 4.5
ND – 3
TTLW – 3
Buckle Up – 3.5
CTG – 4
Retrograde – 3
River Cross – 3

Aggressive (4.08 avg)
WES – 4.5
SBWM – 4
DOTC – 5
QE – 5
Alright – 4
0700 – 5
ND – 4
TTLW – 3.5
Buckle Up – 4.5
CTG – 4.5
Retrograde – 3.5
River Cross – 4

And my other recent rankings:
1. Vitalogy - 4.10
2. Yield - 4.00
3. Ten - 3.95
4. No Code - 3.92
5. Vs. - 3.88
6. Binaural - 3.46
7. Riot Act - 3.40
8. S/T - 3.31
9. Lightning Bolt - 3.29
10. Backspacer - 3.18

where can I hear the atmos version of this? Amazon music has it listed as 3d but when you play the track it is the normal version.

I'm hoping that's not the only option, but seems that it might be.

Where were you when you first listened to Gigaton ??

Mine was all messed up due to downloading the album(leak) with 15 minutes to go before leaving for work and that iTunes was set to shuffle.

Two weeks into quarantine, and halfway through a month of consecutive days spent mostly alone, in a windowless basement storage area, preparing Seattle doctor volunteers to do shifts in the Emergency Department.
