We have a total shitbag, Republican Lt. Governor who is running to replace the current Governor. I don't know what he's on about here, but he reminded me to mail in my request for an absentee ballot.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

You’ve got a Dem Gov with a GOP Lt Gov? How’d that come to pass?
a lot of states don't have the governor and lt. governor run as a "ticket" like the president and vice president. they are separate offices that require separate votes.

Indeed. I'm not sure how much they do together. To judge from the Lt.Gov's twitter account, he's never been in a room with the Governor. The Governor never talks about it.

Biden makes a pretty good case here and comes off a little more like his younger self during the interview.

Sounds like Val Demings is a serious contender for VP.

“In Wayne County alone, more than a million people who weren’t registered to vote in 2018 got to vote anyway, and that’s how Whitmer and these Democrats got elected,” says Matthew Shepard, a retired career military man who drove his hulking, orange paramilitary-style truck 90 minutes south from Shiawassee County to cheer on the president. (He offered no documentation for those statistics.) “That’s the only way Trump loses this election—this mail voting scam.”

Stuff like that isn’t going to matter much in terms of election figures, but it just reminds why “not being around very much” was such a big and crucial part of Biden’s primary strategy.

Short term vote-gathering efforts notwithstanding, the best thing Democrats could do in the campaign and in the subsequent administration would be to differentiate themselves from the boastful, over-emotional, self-gratifying, foot stomping denialism of Trump-era Republicans in every way possible. To create as stark a representation of the gap between those world views as possible. To use this one rare moment where everybody is actually paying attention to demonstrate the fallacy of several decades worth of false equivalences.

Instead, we have Joe Biden.

My kingdom for a candidate who doesn’t defensively boast in response to criticism or skepticism. Double bonus points if they also don’t refer to themselves in the third person, as if they’re talking about someone they deeply admire from afar.
“Remember when they said Biden can’t win the primaries?” Biden asked.

“I kicked everybody’s ass,” Biden said before stopping himself short. “Excuse me, I won overwhelmingly. I told you, when I got to South Carolina, I won every single county. I won a larger share of the black vote than anybody has, including Barack.”

I don't think more than maybe 15-20 people are going to base their vote (or non-vote) on this specific clip, but the larger category of "stuff like this" --which is to say, horrible gaffes, self-righteous entitlement, outright dismissal of legitimate questions about his record, a refusal to make significant concessions to the left--absolutely dampens enthusiasm for Biden, and it's hard to see how that doesn't factor into election figures. In other words, if we had that candidate you're dreaming of--even if that person had Biden's record, age, race, gender, and basic political positions--I think he'd be a lot more of a sure bet against Trump.

And here's who Restoration PAC surveyed in their PA poll.
43.2% TOTAL REPUBLICAN
36.7% TOTAL DEMOCRAT
20.1% TOTAL LEAN/INDEPENDENT
Biden may certainly lose PA and the election, but with all the noise right now it's not hard to find a poll that fits a story, rather than the other way around.

But it did seem to make its way around the internet nevertheless.

I’m OK with Biden because he’s positioned himself as a “transitional president” and likely won’t want a second term. Hell, if his VP is strong enough maybe he resigns even.

Maybe after a first term, assuming he wins (and assuming he's then subjected to four years of Hunter Biden inquiries and is then 82 and fucking tired), but I have a hard time believing that the guy who screams at anyone who questions his record is going to quietly step down midway through his presidency. Like most people who run for president, he seems like a bit of an egomaniac.
