Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree

Post by surfndestroy »

I caved and bought the deluxe edition of ‘The Raven That Refused To Sing (and other stories)‘. I'm hoping it has better packaging than 'All That You Deserve'. I have to say that he is the best 5.1 mixer by far. His studio output in 5.1 just blows me away.

Solo tour dates have been announces, http://stevenwilsonhq.com/sw/tour-dates/.

For Porcupine Tree fans, if you but Octane Twisted by the deluxe, 3 disc set. The bonus disc of live songs is the best I've ever heard.
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.

This is stellar stuff. Brought back memories of the show I saw, it was fantastic.

Holy shit, this is jazzy as fuck, which is exactly the direction I was hoping he'd take.

After one listen, I'm loving it.

Should I download it now or wait for the release?

Wait in order to have your first listen be in 5.1. PT/Steven Wilson in 5.1 is as good as 5.1 gets.

I'm not an audiophile, but if I were, I'd probably wait.

Beginning the third listen, and it keeps getting better. The drumming is stellar.

Well, I had some pretty damned high expectations, and those are blown! (once again)...

Guthrie Govan may be the best guitarist on the planet. That solo on 'Drive Home' is jaw-dropping good...

The whole band is in top form throughout. And it is just absolutely better overall than I was expecting. Wow. Moments of pure splendor.

Going to listen to it again...

UPDATE: The title track is one the best songs he's ever done. If not THE best he's ever done...

I don't know if it's his best, I haven't fully digested this yet. But the highs are really high.

While I agree that Raven is gorgeous, my favourite track right now is The Holy Drinker. The musicianship is just outstanding. I really love the neo-jazz thing it has going.

Love. It.

You guys are killing me. I'm holding out for the real thing to listen to it in 5.1.
