I might get hot, but I can't believe passing out is a risk. I'm not gonna wear a gas mask.
It's 88 here today.
I'm gonna be clear here. I know the risk is low, and I'm not going to be judging people for running and biking without masks unless they're running up to people on the same path and panting on them.

If you’re high risk and not straying the fuck at home, you’d have to be an idiot to leave your house without an N95 or higher PPE. Expecting others to care more about your health than you do is asinine.
I'm going to push back on this. I don't think there are many high-risk people taking the stance of, "you people need to do more to protect me."

If you're not motivated to mask up more out of altruism, think of it this way, ... people are going to get COVID. Some of them are going to end up in the hospital and/or die. Would you want to find out later that you had COVID and one of those deaths occurred in a person who was at the grocery store with you, and you wanted to be free of the burden of a strip of cloth over your nose?
Your line of thinking leads to one place. Stay the fuck at home unless absolutely necessary.
(sorry to strip out the rest of your post) ...

Does it though? Do we have to follow all paths to the dead end? Can't we do the things that our states are letting us do, and just wear a mask while doing them because it's a minor inconvenience that carries a significant benefit?

My family wears helmets while riding their bikes because it's safer than not wearing a helmet. No one every says to me, "Hey your line of thinking leads to one place. Never ride a bike!"
Care to quantify This ‘significant benefit’?
You wear the helmet for your own safety not to protect others. Sounds like you are advocating for people to wear N95 or higher PPE to protect themselves rather than masks that lessen their risk to others. Glad you’ve come around.
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.

I haven't dug through data, but I've seen claims that a cloth cover on the infected person reduces the risk of transmission by 70%. No clue how to quantify that into lives or dollars saved.

The direct reason for the mask is different than for the helmet, but the argument is the same. We can take modest steps for safer outcomes without proceeding to the zero risk option.

We had pretty much the same thing happen over here with our health minister - twice, going mountain biking and taking his family to the beach

Cummings should have been invited to resigned immediately. If he didn't, Johnson should've sacked him on the spot.

Not because what he did is wrong - I don't know enough about it but it seems like pretty small beer - but it's wildly damaging to the public standing of the government.

Mind-boggling that the response is to dig in and hope it all blows over.
